text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BHS are rich biodiversity areas and are important components of local <\/span><b>ecosystems <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which are being <\/span><b>conserved and managed by the society.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BHS are unique ecosystems <\/span><b>having rich biodiversity comprising<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> any<\/span><b> one or more of the following components:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Richness of wild as well as domesticated species<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or intra-specific categories.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>High endemism.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Presence of r<\/span><b>are and threatened species, keystone species<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and s<\/span><b>pecies of evolutionary significance.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Wild ancestors of domestic\/cultivated species<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or their varieties.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Past pre-eminence of biological components <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">represented by <\/span><b>fossil beds <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and having significant cultural, ethical or aesthetic values and are important for the maintenance of cultural diversity, <\/span><b>with or without a long history of human association with them.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They may spread over<\/span><b> terrestrial, aquatic, coastal and inland and marine ecosystems <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">having rich biodiversity.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under Section-37 of the <\/span><b>Biological Diversity Act, 2002<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>State Government<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in <\/span><b>consultation with local bodie<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s, may<\/span><b> notify areas <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of biodiversity importance <\/span><b>as BHS.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>State Governments <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are<\/span><b> empowered to frame schemes for compensating <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or rehabilitating any person or section of<\/span><b> people economically affected by such notification.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>State Government<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in <\/span><b>consultation with the Central Government,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may <\/span><b>frame rules for the management and conservation of BHS.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>creation of BHS <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">may <\/span><b>not put any restriction on the prevailing practices and usages of the local communities <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">othe<\/span><b>r than those voluntarily decided by them.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The purpose of declaring BHS is to enhance the quality of life of the local communities through the conservation of such sites.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
