installation of rooftop solar power systems has crossed 30 lakh households since February 2024 under the central government&#8217;s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was launched in 2024 with an aim to provide <\/span><b>free electricity to households in India.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the scheme, households will be provided with <\/span><b>a subsidy to install solar panels<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on their roofs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Subsidy:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The scheme provides for a <\/span><b>subsidy of 60% of the solar unit cost<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for <\/span><b>systems up to 2 kW capacit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">y and <\/span><b>40 percent of additional system cost<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for systems <\/span><b>between 2 to 3 kW capacity.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The subsidy has been <\/span><b>capped at 3 kW capacity.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another component of the scheme is the development of <\/span><b>Model Solar Village<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in each district of the country.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the component Incentives to Local Bodies, the scheme has provision of providing an incentive at <\/span><b>Rs 1,000 per rooftop solar installation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the respective jurisdiction of the <\/span><b>Urban Local Bodies (<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ULBs) and <\/span><b>Panchayat Raj Institutions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (PRIs) at the <\/span><b>Gram Panchayat level.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Implementing agency:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is implemented by a <\/span><b>National programme Implementation Agency<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (NPIA) at the National level and by the <\/span><b>State Implementation Agencies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SIAs) at the state level.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the scheme, <\/span><b>DISCOMs <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are <\/span><b>designated as State Implementation Agencies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SIAs) responsible for facilitating various measures, including net meter availability, timely inspection, and commissioning of installations.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DISCOMs will <\/span><b>receive incentives based on their achievement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the installation of additional grid-connected rooftop solar capacity beyond a baseline level.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Eligibility Criteria for PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The household must be an <\/span><b>Indian citizen.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The household <\/span><b>must own a house<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a roof that is suitable for installing solar panels.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The household must have a <\/span><b>valid electricity connection.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The household <\/span><b>must not have<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> availed any <\/span><b>other subsidy for
