{"id":20584,"date":"2024-02-17T11:55:18","date_gmt":"2024-02-17T06:25:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=20584"},"modified":"2025-04-06T02:17:50","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T20:47:50","slug":"interpol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/interpol\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Interpol\u2019s Red Corner Notice?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Interpol\u2019s Red Corner Notice<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Criminals or suspects often flee a country to evade facing justice.<\/li>\n<li>A Red Corner Notice also called a\u00a0Red Notice (RN),\u00a0is a request to law enforcements\u00a0worldwide to locate\u00a0and\u00a0provisionally arrest such\u00a0fugitives.<\/li>\n<li>It alerts the police forces across the world about these fugitives who are wanted internationally.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>A RN\u00a0contains information that helps identify the wanted person, including name, date of birth, nationality, physical attributes like colour of hair, eyes, etc., along with pictures and biometric information.<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0also includes information about the crimes that they are wanted for.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Interpol\u00a0issues a RN at the request of a member country.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0country which issues the request\u00a0need not be the home country of the fugitive.<\/li>\n<li>Interpol acts at the request of the country where the alleged crime is committed.<\/li>\n<li>A RN\u00a0request\u00a0can also be raised by International Criminal courts and Tribunals.<\/li>\n<li>It is\u00a0not an international arrest warrant. It\u00a0is a request to locate and provisionally arrest a person\u00a0pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.<\/li>\n<li>Interpol cannot compel the law enforcements authorities in any of the countries to arrest someone who has a RN issued. Each member country determines on the legal value it gives to a RN.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key Facts about Interpol<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO), commonly known as Interpol, is an\u00a0inter-governmental organization that\u00a0facilitates international police cooperation to control crime.<\/li>\n<li>It has\u00a0195 member countries, with its\u00a0headquarters in Lyon, France.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Each of the\u00a0member countries has an Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB).\n<ul>\n<li>They\u00a0facilitate the respective country\u2019s national law enforcement with other countries and with the General Secretariat, which is Interpol\u2019s body that coordinates its policing and administrative activities.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>CBI represents Interpol in India as the country&#8217;s NCB.&#8217;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Interpol helps coordinate police networks &amp; experts in different crime areas to control crime.<\/li>\n<li>All the\u00a0member countries are connected through Interpol\u2019s\u00a0communication system, called I-24\/7.\n<ul>\n<li>This secure network is\u00a0used by member countries to contact each other and allows them to\u00a0access Interpol\u2019s databases.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Interpol\u00a0manages 19 databases, which include information on varied crimes and criminals and are\u00a0available real-time to countries.<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0offers investigative support, including forensic analysis, locating fugitives across the world, etc.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is the premier investigative agency in India, with a dual responsibility to investigate grievous cases and provide leadership and direction in fighting corruption to the police force across the country. The establishment of the CBI was recommended by the Santhanam Committee on Prevention of Corruption (1962\u20131964). It is not a statutory body, as it was set up by a resolution (1963) of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
