{"id":20644,"date":"2024-02-19T04:12:57","date_gmt":"2024-02-18T22:42:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=20644"},"modified":"2025-04-06T02:41:04","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T21:11:04","slug":"rip-currents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/rip-currents\/","title":{"rendered":"Rip Currents"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Rip Currents<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>These are a\u00a0strong flow of water\u00a0running from a beach back to the Open Ocean, sea, or lake.<\/li>\n<li>These are one of the most well-known coastal hazards on beaches around the world.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Formation\n<ul>\n<li>They are formed by a beach topography.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>They can occur in\u00a0areas with hard-bottom (rocky) or soft-bottom (sand or silt) beach topography.<\/li>\n<li>A beaches topography includes the area outside the water, such as dunes or marshes.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Beach topography also includes the area within the water, like sandbars, piers, and reefs. Rip currents often form around these parts of a beachs topography.<\/li>\n<li>They can form in a gap between sandbars, piers, or parts of a reef.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Such underwater obstacles block waves from washing directly back to sea.<\/li>\n<li>The water from these waves, called feeder waves, runs along the shore until it finds an opening around the obstacle.<\/li>\n<li>Contrary to popular belief, a\u00a0rip cannot pull a person down and hold him\/her under the water.<\/li>\n<li>It simply carries floating objects, including people, out to just beyond the zone of the breaking waves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Ocean current?<\/h3>\n<p>These are the continuous, predictable, directional movement of seawater driven by gravity, wind (Coriolis Effect), and water density. Ocean water moves in two directions: horizontally and vertically.
