{"id":20719,"date":"2024-02-21T08:02:01","date_gmt":"2024-02-21T02:32:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=20719"},"modified":"2025-04-06T03:13:24","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T21:43:24","slug":"ibsa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ibsa\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the IBSA Fund?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About IBSA Fund<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was\u00a0established in 2004 and became operational in 2006.<\/li>\n<li>The IBSA countries &#8211;\u00a0India, Brazil and South Africa &#8211; each contribute\u00a0one million dollars annually to the Fund in a spirit of partnership and support for Southern-led, demand-driven, transformational projects in developing countries.<\/li>\n<li>The purpose of the fund is to identify\u00a0replicable and scalable projects that can be disseminated to developing countries on a demand-driven basis.<\/li>\n<li>IBSA Fund-supported projects help partner countries in the Global South to\u00a0achieve\u00a0their national priorities, as well as all other\u00a0internationally agreed development goals.<\/li>\n<li>Objectives: It includes\u00a0promoting food security, and addressing HIV\/AIDS, to extending access to safe drinking water all to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, the release said.<\/li>\n<li>The IBSA Fund has allocated USD 50.6 million to date, supporting 45 projects across 37 countries of the global South.<\/li>\n<li>The UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) serves as the\u00a0Fund Manager and Secretariat\u00a0of the IBSA Fund.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is IBSA?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a unique Forum which brings together India, Brazil and South Africa, three large democracies and major economies from three different continents, facing similar challenges.<\/li>\n<li>The grouping was formalized and named the\u00a0IBSA Dialogue Forum\u00a0when the Foreign Ministers of the three countries met in Brasilia on 6 June 2003 and issued the Brasilia Declaration.<\/li>\n<li>Five IBSA Leadership Summits have been held so far.<\/li>\n<li>The 5th IBSA Summit was held in Pretoria on 18 October 2011.<\/li>\n<li>India was the IBSA Chair under the theme \u201cDemocracy for Demography and Development\u201d in\u00a02021.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Brazil assumed on March 2, 2023, the rotating presidency of the India, Brazil, South Africa Dialogue Forum &#8211; IBSA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a knowledge hub providing advisory and consulting services to all stakeholders on South-South and triangular cooperation.
