


{"id":20865,"date":"2026-02-02T12:37:25","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T07:07:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=20865"},"modified":"2026-02-02T16:53:49","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T11:23:49","slug":"guru-ravidas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/guru-ravidas\/","title":{"rendered":"Guru Ravidas"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Guru Ravidas Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prime Minister recently inaugurated the Adampur Airport in Punjab and renamed it after Sri Sant Guru Ravidas Ji in a bid to honour the revered saint and social reformer on his birth anniversary. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Guru Ravidas<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guru Ravidas <\/span><b>(1377-1527 C.E.) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was a renowned saint known for his contributions to the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/bhakti-movements-in-north-india\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bhakti movement<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His <\/span><b>devotional songs and verses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> made a lasting impact upon the Bhakti Movement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guru Ravidas is also<\/span><b> known as Raidas, Rohidas, and Ruhidas.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ravidas was <\/span><b>born <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in a <\/span><b>village called Sir Gobardhanpur, near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today, his <\/span><b>birthplace <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a special place known as <\/span><b>Shri Guru Ravidass Janam Asthan.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His <\/span><b>birthday <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is <\/span><b>celebrated as Ravidas Jayanti.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ravidas is traditionally seen as a <\/span><b>student of the bhakti-poet Ramananda.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is also thought to have <\/span><b>lived around the same time as Kabir,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> another famous <\/span><b>poet-saint.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was a <\/span><b>well-known poet<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. His poems, written in local languages, inspired many people.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">41<\/span><b> of his devotional songs <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and poems are <\/span><b>found in the Sikh holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of his poems are <\/span><b>also in the Panch Vani text<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Dadu Panthi tradition within Hinduism.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Philosophy and Teachings:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The core of Guru Ravidas\u2019s philosophy was the <\/span><b>rejection of the caste system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>promotion of human rights and dignity.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He <\/span><b>envisioned <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a society called <\/span><b>&#8216;Beghumpura&#8217; (a city without sorrow)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where there is no suffering, no fear, and no discrimination.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also became a <\/span><b>symbol of opposition to untouchability <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in society by the higher caste people for the lower caste people.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He emphasised the <\/span><b>philosophy of spiritual freedom.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He abandoned the saguna (with attributes, image) forms of supreme beings and <\/span><b>focussed on the nirguna (without attributes, abstract) form of supreme beings.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Meera Bai<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a <\/span><b>revered figure in Hindu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> spiritualism, is said to have <\/span><b>considered Guru Ravidas as her spiritual Guru.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Ravidassia religion:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Guru\u2019s teachings now form the basis of the Ravidassia religion.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Ravidassias believe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that <\/span><b>Guru Ravidas should be treated as a saint<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> just like the other gurus, as he <\/span><b>lived before the first Sikh Guru,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and his <\/span><b>teachings were studied by the Sikh Gurus.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ravidassia community adopted the <\/span><b>Amrit Bani Guru Ravidass<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as its<\/span><b> holy book<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and established its own symbols and rituals.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/india\/story\/pm-modi-inaugurates-adampur-airport-renames-it-after-guru-ravidas-ji-2861362-2026-02-01\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guru Ravidas (1377-1527 C.E.) was a renowned saint known for his contributions to the Bhakti movement.
