{"id":20998,"date":"2025-10-27T03:12:54","date_gmt":"2025-10-26T21:42:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=20998"},"modified":"2025-10-29T13:32:26","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T08:02:26","slug":"north-atlantic-right-whales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/north-atlantic-right-whales\/","title":{"rendered":"North Atlantic right whales"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About North Atlantic right whale:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>These <strong>whales are migratory animals<\/strong>, spending the winter in warmer waters and migrating to the poles for cooler waters in late summer.<\/li>\n<li>These whales inhabit the <strong>temperate and subpolar waters of the north Atlantic<\/strong> and north Pacific oceans.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Habitat:<\/strong> Depending on the time of year and which hemisphere they&#8217;re found, right whales will spend much of their time near bays and peninsulas and in shallow, coastal waters.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Distribution:<\/strong> These are generally restricted to the <strong>coastal waters<\/strong> of the <strong>East coast of the United States and Canada.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>There are three recognized species of right whales that occur in different parts of the world. These are <strong>Southern <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/right-whales\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>right whales<\/strong><\/a> (Eubalaena australis), <strong>North Atlantic right whales<\/strong> (Eubalaena glacialis) and <strong>North Pacific right whales.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>These whales often <strong>skim feed at or just below the water surface<\/strong>, slowly swimming through clouds of plankton with their mouths half open and then straining the plankton through their long baleen plates.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Conservation status<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>IUCN:<\/strong> Critically endangered<\/li>\n<li><strong>CITES:<\/strong> Appendix I<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the International Whaling Commission?<\/h3>\n<p>It was set up under the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling (ICRW) which was signed in Washington DC in 1946.
