


{"id":21034,"date":"2024-02-29T11:09:58","date_gmt":"2024-02-29T05:39:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21034"},"modified":"2025-04-06T09:21:33","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T03:51:33","slug":"neolithic-period","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/neolithic-period\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Neolithic Period?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Neolithic Period<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Neolithic Period, also called the\u00a0New Stone Age, is the\u00a0final stage of cultural evolution\u00a0or\u00a0technological development\u00a0among\u00a0prehistoric humans.<\/li>\n<li>The term Neolithic is most\u00a0frequently used in connection with agriculture, which is the time when cereal cultivation and\u00a0animal domestication were introduced.<\/li>\n<li>It is characterized by the\u00a0beginning of a settled human lifestyle.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The Neolithic stage of development was attained during the Holocene Epoch (the last 11,700 years of Earth\u2019s history).<\/li>\n<li>The starting point of the Neolithic is generally thought to have occurred sometime around 10,000 BCE.<\/li>\n<li>The Neolithic\u00a0followed the Paleolithic Period, or the age of chipped-stone tools, and\u00a0preceded the Bronze Age, or the early period of metal tools.<\/li>\n<li>The Neolithic Revolution\u00a0started in the Fertile Crescent, a region of the\u00a0Middle East, where humans first took up farming.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Features of the Neolithic Age:\n<ul>\n<li>It was characterized by\u00a0stone tools\u00a0shaped by polishing or grinding, dependence on\u00a0domesticated plants or animals,\u00a0settlement in permanent villages, and the appearance of such\u00a0crafts as pottery and weaving.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0houses were built of mud\u00a0and reed in rectangular or circular shapes.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol was first produced during this period, and architecture, as well as its\u00a0interior and exterior decoration, first appeared.<\/li>\n<li>Status objects like elaborate pottery and carved jades\u00a0were placed in tombs during the Neolithic period. This practice\u00a0suggests two things: Neolithic people\u2019s\u00a0belief in the afterlife and the\u00a0emergence of social classes. Only important and wealthy individuals had the privilege of being buried with these precious objects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>End of the Neolithic Age:\n<ul>\n<li>Towards the end of the Neolithic era,\u00a0copper metallurgy is\u00a0introduced, which\u00a0marks a transition period to the Bronze Age, sometimes\u00a0referred to as the Chalcolithic or Eneolithic Era.<\/li>\n<li>In time,\u00a0bronze became the primary material for tools and weapons, and a good part of the\u00a0stone technology became obsolete, signalling the\u00a0end of the Neolithic and thus of the Stone Age.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Some of the important\u00a0Neolithic sites in India include\u00a0Burzahom in Kashmir,\u00a0Chiron in Bihar and\u00a0Uttar in Andhra Pradesh, and\u00a0Edakkal caves in Kerala.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the Paleolithic Period?<\/h3>\n<p>The Paleolithic Age, also known as the Stone Age, is a prehistoric period that spanned from about 2.6 million years ago to around 10,000 BCE (Before Common Era).
