{"id":21087,"date":"2025-08-23T10:36:41","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T05:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21087"},"modified":"2025-08-23T13:02:43","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T07:32:43","slug":"ibca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ibca\/","title":{"rendered":"International Big Cat Alliance"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>International Big Cat Alliance Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India has extended privileges and immunities to the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) and its officials under the United Nations (Privileges and Immunities) Act, 1947.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About International Big Cat Alliance<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was launched in <\/span><b>April 2023<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during the 50th anniversary of <\/span><b>Project Tiger.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>treaty-based inter-governmental organisation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that covers conservation of seven big cats \u2014 <\/span><b>tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, cheetah, jaguar, and puma.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The primary objective of the Alliance is to <\/span><b>facilitate collaboration and synergy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> among stakeholders, consolidating successful conservation practices and expertise to achieve the <\/span><b>conservation of big cats at a global level.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It brings together <\/span><b>95 range and non-range countries,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> conservation partners, scientific organisations, and corporates to promote collaboration and share conservation practices.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Implementation agency:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The IBCA is implemented through the <\/span><b>National Tiger Conservation Authority<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (NTCA) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Membership:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Membership is open to all UN Member States, including:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Range countries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where big cats naturally occur.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Non-range countries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that are interested in supporting global conservation of big cats.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Institutional Support and Funding:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> India has committed \u20b9150 crore (for the period 2023\u20132028) as budgetary support for: Creating a corpus fund, Building infrastructure, and Covering recurring expenses of the IBCA.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Members:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 12 countries (including India).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/ddnews.gov.in\/en\/govt-grants-un-style-privileges-immunities-to-international-big-cat-alliance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DD News<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Global initiative by India (2023) to unite countries in conserving seven big cat species: Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Puma, Jaguar &#038; Cheetah.
