commitment to wildlife conservation and sustainable practices on the occasion of World Wildlife Day.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About World Wildlife Day (WWD)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is observed every year on <\/span><b>March 3<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to celebrate wild animals and plants and recognize the unique roles and contributions of wildlife to people and the planet.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>History<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>established by the United Nations in 2013 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">after Thailand proposed to dedicate a day to raise awareness about wildlife conservation.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On December 20, 2013, the UN General Assembly officially declared March 3 as World Wildlife Day, with the<\/span><b> first celebration taking place in 2014.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This date was chosen because, <\/span><b>in 1973, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora <\/span><b>(CITES) was signed on the same day.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/cites\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>CITES <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a global agreement to <\/span><b>ensure that international wildlife trade does not threaten the survival of animal and plant species.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>WWD 2026 Theme: \u201cMedicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods\u201d<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It highlights the importance of plants used for medicine, their role in preserving cultural traditions, and the income they provide to local communities.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Across the world, <\/span><b>70\u201395% of people in developing countries depend on traditional medicine <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for basic healthcare, much of it derived from plant-based resources.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medicinal and aromatic plants form the foundation of traditional systems of medicine and also contribute significantly to modern pharmaceuticals.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>India <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is <\/span><b>one of 17 megabiodiversity-rich countries <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with around <\/span><b>15,000 medicinal plant species,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of which 8,000 are used in Indian medicine,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">making it one of the world&#8217;s most important hubs for medicinal and aromatic
