


{"id":21216,"date":"2024-03-04T09:57:40","date_gmt":"2024-03-04T04:27:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21216"},"modified":"2025-04-06T10:39:11","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T05:09:11","slug":"gro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/gro\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Resource Outlook"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Global Resource Outlook<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the flagship report of the\u00a0International Resource Panel of the United Nations Environment Programme.<\/li>\n<li>This year\u2019s report sheds light on\u00a0how resources are essential to the effective implementation of the Agenda 2030 and multilateral environmental agreements to tackle the triple planetary crisis.<\/li>\n<li>It brings together the best available data,\u00a0modelling and assessments from 180 countries, seven world regions and four income groups, to analyse trends, impacts and distributional effects of resource use.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Highlights of the report<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It presents a stark\u00a0picture of global inequality, where low-income countries consume six times less materials compared to wealthy countries, despite generating 10 times less climate impacts.<\/li>\n<li>Global production and consumption of material resources has grown more than three times over the\u00a0last 50 years, growing at an average of more than 2.3 per cent a year, despite the increase being the main driver of the triple planetary crisis.<\/li>\n<li>The consumption and use of resources is largely driven by demand in upper income countries.<\/li>\n<li>The extraction and processing of material resources \u2014 including fossil fuels, minerals, non-metallic minerals and biomass \u2014\u00a0accounts for over 55 per cent of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and 40 per cent of particulate matter poisoning the environment.<\/li>\n<li>The extraction and processing of agricultural crops and forestry products accounts for 90 per cent of land-related biodiversity loss and water stress and a third of GHG emissions.<\/li>\n<li>The extraction and processing of fossil fuels, metals and non-metallic minerals including sand, gravel and clay account\u00a0for 35 per cent of global emissions.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Despite this, resource exploitation could increase by almost 60 per cent from 2020 levels by 2060 \u2014 from 100 to 160 billion tonnes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the objective of the United Nations Environment Programme(UNEP)?<\/h3>\n<p>It acts as a facilitator to promote the wise use and sustainable development of the global environment.
