Festivals and fairs are held annually, often on specific dates, to honor these sacred places.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rajasthan\u00a0<\/strong>is home to about\u00a0<strong>25,000 \u2018Oran\u2019 lands<\/strong>\u00a0covering an area of 6 lakh hectares.<\/li>\n<li>\u2018Oran\u2019 land is\u00a0<strong>used by local communities for grazing, forest products, natural water filtration,\u00a0<\/strong>and for\u00a0<strong>livelihood opportunities\u00a0<\/strong>to promote the livestock economy.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Water bodies within the orans<\/strong>, such as\u00a0<strong>Talab (pond), Nadi (small pond), open wells,<\/strong>\u00a0and streams, are\u00a0<strong>crucial water resources for livestock and wildlife.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>In the Thar Desert, some orans have ancient\u00a0<\/strong>goverdhan\/shilalekh<strong>\u00a0(petrograph) near water bodies.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The area covered by an oran can range from a\u00a0<strong>few hectares to several hundred hectares.<\/strong>\u00a0For example, the\u00a0<strong>Bhadariya Mata Oran in Jaisalmer<\/strong>\u00a0district spans 17,821 hectares.<\/li>\n<li>Orans also form the\u00a0<strong>natural habitat fo<\/strong>r<strong>\u00a0India\u2019s most critically endangered bird, the Great Indian Bustard (GIB)<\/strong>, a protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act, which is also the State bird of Rajasthan.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The State\u2019s forest policy of 2023 gave the status of general community land to \u2018Orans\u2019, which was considered insufficient for their conservation as well as protection against encroachment and degradation.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Supreme Court recognised \u2018Oran\u2019 lands as forests under the Forest Conservation Act, 1980,<\/strong>\u00a0in a landmark judgment delivered on December 18, 2024.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Orans FAQs<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Q1<\/strong>.
