


{"id":21423,"date":"2024-03-11T11:26:35","date_gmt":"2024-03-11T05:56:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21423"},"modified":"2025-10-13T12:35:47","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T07:05:47","slug":"yaounde-declaration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/yaounde-declaration\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Yaounde Declaration?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Yaounde Declaration<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was signed by the\u00a0health ministers of 11 African countries with the\u00a0highest burden of malaria,\u00a0committing to accelerated action to end deaths from the malaria disease.<\/li>\n<li>It was signed at the\u00a0Yaound\u00e9 conference,\u00a0co-hosted by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/world-health-organisation\/\" target=\"_blank\"><u>World Health Organization (WHO)<\/u><\/a> and the Government of Cameroon.\n<ul>\n<li>The conference gathered Ministers of Health, global malaria partners, funding agencies, scientists, civil society organizations, and other principal malaria stakeholders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The 11 countries that signed the declaration are:\u00a0Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania. These countries carry roughly 70% of the global malaria burden.<\/li>\n<li>They\u00a0pledged to\u00a0sustainably and equitably address the threat of malaria in the African region, which accounts for 95% of malaria deaths globally.<\/li>\n<li>They committed to\u00a0provide stronger leadership and increased domestic funding for malaria control programmes; to ensure\u00a0further investment in data technology; to apply the latest technical guidance in malaria control and elimination; and to enhance malaria control efforts at the national and sub-national levels.<\/li>\n<li>The ministers further pledged to\u00a0increase health sector investments to bolster infrastructure, personnel, and programme implementation; to enhance\u00a0multi-sectoral collaboration; and to build partnerships for funding, research, and innovation.<\/li>\n<li>In signing the declaration, they expressed their \u201cunwavering commitment to the accelerated reduction of malaria mortality\u201d and \u201cto\u00a0hold each other and our countries accountable for the commitments\u00a0outlined in this declaration.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Malaria?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. There are 5 parasite species that cause malaria in humans, and 2 of these species, Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax, pose the greatest threat. It is common in tropical areas where it\u2019s hot and humid.
