{"id":21459,"date":"2024-03-13T01:03:11","date_gmt":"2024-03-12T19:33:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21459"},"modified":"2025-04-06T12:22:35","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T06:52:35","slug":"ucpmp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ucpmp\/","title":{"rendered":"Uniform Code for Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (UCPMP) 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About UCPMP 2024<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It has been implemented\u00a0to control unethical practices\u00a0in the pharma industry.<\/li>\n<li>The updated guidelines include\u00a0drug endorsement, promotion,\u00a0ethical conduct for medical representatives, and\u00a0maintaining relationships with\u00a0healthcare professionals.<\/li>\n<li>Important Provisions:\n<ul>\n<li>It\u00a0prohibits pharma companies\u00a0from offering gifts and travel facilities to healthcare professionals\u00a0or\u00a0their\u00a0family members.<\/li>\n<li>The UCPMP mandates that medical representatives must not employ any inducement or subterfuge to gain an interview, and they must not pay, under any guise, for access to a healthcare professional.<\/li>\n<li>It also\u00a0holds companies responsible for the actions of the medical representatives.<\/li>\n<li>It also\u00a0bans the supply of free samples\u00a0to those who are not qualified to prescribe such a product.<\/li>\n<li>Each pharma company also\u00a0needs to maintain details such as product name, doctor name, the number of samples given, date of supply of free samples to healthcare practitioners, etc., and the monetary value\u00a0of samples so distributed\u00a0should\u00a0not exceed two percent of the company&#8217;s domestic sales per year.<\/li>\n<li>All\u00a0pharmaceutical associations must constitute an Ethics Committee for Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (ECPMP), set up a\u00a0dedicated UCPMP portal\u00a0on their website, and take further necessary steps towards the implementation of this Code.<\/li>\n<li>It also\u00a0lists in detail how the drug should be promoted, both in texts and in the audio-visual market.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0information about drugs must be\u00a0balanced,\u00a0up-to-date, and verifiable, and must not mislead either directly or by implication.<\/li>\n<li>The pharma companies\u00a0should not make claims and comparisons of their drug&#8217;s\u00a0usefulness, and the\u00a0word &#8220;safe&#8221;
