{"id":21538,"date":"2025-12-09T11:13:49","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T05:43:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21538"},"modified":"2025-12-09T15:56:35","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T10:26:35","slug":"nmeo-op","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/nmeo-op\/","title":{"rendered":"National Mission on Edible Oils"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Mission on Edible Oils Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Mission on Edible Oils (NMEO) embodies India\u2019s commitment to realizing the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat by transforming the edible oil sector from an import-dependent to a self-reliant one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Mission on Edible Oils<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims to <\/span><b>strengthen the country\u2019s oilseed ecosystem<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and achieve Atmanirbharta in edible oil production.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Targets of the mission<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It targets to increase the <\/span><b>area coverage<\/b> <b>from 29 million ha<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2022-23) to 33 million ha, <\/span><b>primary oilseed production<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from 39 million tonnes (2022-23) to 69.7 million tonnes, and yield from 1,353 kg\/ha (2022-23) to 2,112 kg\/ha by 2030-31.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This mission targets <\/span><b>domestic edible oil production<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at 25.45 million tonnes by 2030-31.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mission also seeks to expand oilseed cultivation by an additional 40 lakh hectares by targeting rice and potato fallow lands.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has two-pronged approach which is as follows<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is focused on <\/span><b>expanding oil palm cultivation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and increasing domestic crude palm oil output.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>approved in 2021,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as a <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/centrally-sponsored-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\">Centrally Sponsored Scheme<\/a>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the aim to enhance the edible oilseeds production and oils availability in the country by area expansion and increasing Crude Palm Oil (CPO) production.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It focuses on <\/span><b>increasing production of seedlings<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by establishment of seed garden, and nurseries of oil palm in order to assure <\/span><b>domestic availability of seedlings<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as per target fixed under NMEO-OP.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Targets:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To bring <\/span><b>6.5 lakh hectares under oil palm cultivation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by 2025\u201326 and increase crude palm oil production to 28 lakh tonnes by 2029\u201330.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Implementation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Department of Agriculture &amp; Farmers Welfare (DA&amp;FW) serves as the nodal central authority.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>National Mission on Edible Oils\u2013 Oilseeds<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is aimed at <\/span><b>improving productivity, seed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> quality, processing, and market linkages for traditional oilseed crops.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Target:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 To <\/span><b>increase oilseed production<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from 39 to 69.7 million tonnes by 2030\u201331 through cluster-based interventions and improved seed systems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>approved in 2024,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for a <\/span><b>seven-year period, from 2024-<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">25 to 2030-31.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Focus:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Increasing production of <\/span><b>key primary oilseed crops<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as Rapeseed-Mustard, Groundnut, Soybean, Sunflower, Sesamum, Safflower, Niger, Linseed and Castor.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also focuses on increasing collection and extraction efficiency from <\/span><b>secondary sources<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> like cottonseed, coconut, rice bran as well as Tree-Borne Oilseeds (TBOs).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Implementation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It will be implemented in <\/span><b>all States\/UTs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the funding pattern <\/span><b>of 60:40 in<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> case of general States, Delhi &amp;
