{"id":21570,"date":"2024-03-16T01:45:39","date_gmt":"2024-03-15T20:15:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21570"},"modified":"2025-04-06T13:08:03","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T07:38:03","slug":"noctis-volcano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/noctis-volcano\/","title":{"rendered":"Noctis Volcano"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Noctis Volcano<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a\u00a0newly-discovered volcano located just\u00a0south of Mars\u2019 equator, in Eastern Noctis Labyrinthus,\u00a0west of Valles Marineris, the planet\u2019s vast canyon system.<\/li>\n<li>The volcano\u00a0sits on the eastern edge of a broad regional\u00a0topographic rise called Tharsis,\u00a0home to three other well-known giant volcanoes:\u00a0Ascraeus Mons, Pavonis Mons, and Arsia Mons.<\/li>\n<li>The massive structure spans over\u00a09,022 meters\u00a0in elevation,\u00a0higher than the highest peak,\u00a0Mount Everest, on Earth.<\/li>\n<li>The volcano is spread in a huge area with a width of over 450 kilometres.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0central summit area is marked by several elevated mesas forming an arc, reaching a\u00a0regional high\u00a0and sloping downhill away\u00a0from the summit area.<\/li>\n<li>The gentle outer slopes extend out to 225 kilometres (140 miles) away in different directions.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0caldera remnant\u2013the remains of a collapsed volcanic crater once host to a lava lake\u2013can be\u00a0seen near the centre\u00a0of the structure.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Lava flows, pyroclastic deposits (made of volcanic particulate materials such as ash, cinders, pumice, and tephra), and\u00a0hydrated mineral deposits occur\u00a0in several areas\u00a0within the structure\u2019s perimeter.<\/li>\n<li>It was\u00a0active for a very long time on the Red Planet, and in\u00a0its southeastern part lies a\u00a0thin, recent volcanic deposit\u00a0beneath which glacier ice is likely still present.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is a Volcano?<\/h3>\n<p>A volcano is an opening in the earth\u2019s crust through which gases, molten rock materials (lava), ash, steam, etc. are emitted outward during an eruption. Such vents or openings occur in those parts of the earth\u2019s crust where the rock strata are relatively weak.
