{"id":21574,"date":"2024-03-16T01:34:18","date_gmt":"2024-03-15T20:04:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21574"},"modified":"2025-10-13T12:28:28","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T06:58:28","slug":"agreement-on-pre-notification-of-the-flight-testing-of-ballistic-missiles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/agreement-on-pre-notification-of-the-flight-testing-of-ballistic-missiles\/","title":{"rendered":"Agreement on Pre-notification of the \u2018Flight Testing of Ballistic Missiles\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Agreement on Pre-notification of the \u2018Flight Testing of Ballistic Missiles\u2019<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was signed between\u00a0India and Pakistan on October 3,\u00a02005.<\/li>\n<li>According to the pact, both\u00a0countries are supposed to send each other an \u2018advance notification\u2019\u00a0of the\u00a0flight test that they intend to undertake\u00a0of any land or sea- launched, surface-to-surface\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/types-of-missiles-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\"><u>ballistic missiles<\/u><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The notification should be &#8220;no less than three days in advance of the commencement of a\u00a0five-day launch window within which it intends to undertake flight tests of any land or sea-launched, surface-to-surface ballistic missile&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Each country also has\u00a0to ensure that the test launch sites don\u2019t fall within 40 km\u00a0and the\u00a0impact area isn\u2019t within 75 km of the International Boundary or the Line of Control along the side of the country undertaking the test.<\/li>\n<li>Each party shall also further\u00a0ensure that the planned trajectory of the ballistic missile being flight tested\u00a0shall not cross the International Boundary or the Line of Control between India and Pakistan, and further,\u00a0it shall maintain a horizontal distance of at least 40 km from the International Boundary and the Line of Control.<\/li>\n<li>The parties shall\u00a0treat the bilateral pre-Notification\u00a0exchanged under this agreement\u00a0as confidential, unless otherwise agreed upon.<\/li>\n<li>The notification\u00a0shall be conveyed through the respective Foreign Offices and the High Commissions, as per the format annexed to the agreement.<\/li>\n<li>The agreement states that pre-notification\u00a0applies only to tests conducted with surface-to-surface ballistic missiles launched from land or sea. The agreement\u00a0does not apply to cruise missiles.<\/li>\n<li>The agreement also\u00a0does not apply to surface-to-air missiles.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0party may withdraw\u00a0from this agreement by giving six months written notice\u00a0to the other, indicating its intention to abrogate the agreement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are Ballistic Missiles?<\/h3>\n<p>Ballistic missiles are powered initially by a rocket or series of rockets in stages, but then follow an unpowered trajectory that arches upwards before descending to reach its intended target.
