{"id":21707,"date":"2024-10-08T05:47:20","date_gmt":"2024-10-08T00:17:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21707"},"modified":"2025-10-10T13:43:39","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T08:13:39","slug":"global-climate-report-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/global-climate-report-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"State of Global Climate Report 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About State of Global Water Resource Report:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an annual report published by the <strong>World Meteorological Organization (WMO) since 2021.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It offers a comprehensive and consistent <strong>overview of water resources worldwide<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is based on input from dozens of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services and other organizations and experts.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Highlights of the 2023 Report:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The year <strong>2023<\/strong> marked the <strong>driest year for global rivers in 33 years<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>last five consecutive years<\/strong> have recorded widespread <strong>below-normal conditions for river flows, <\/strong>with reservoir inflows following a similar pattern.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It notes that 2023 was also the second consecutive year in which all regions in the world with glaciers reported ice loss, the year in which \u201c<strong>glaciers suffered the largest mass loss ever registered in 50 years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>More than 600 gigatons (Gt) of water were lost across all glaciated regions of the world.\n<ul>\n<li>The report says <strong>3.6 billion people<\/strong> currently <strong>face inadequate access to <\/strong>water at least one month a year, and this is expected to increase to more than 5 billion by 2050.<\/li>\n<li>The world is <strong>far off-track with Sustainable Development Goal 6<\/strong> on water and sanitation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN). It is the UN system&#8217;s authoritative voice on the state and behavior of the Earth&#8217;s atmosphere, its interaction with the oceans, the climate it produces, and the resulting distribution of water resources. It originated from the International Meteorological Organization (IMO), which was founded in 1873.
