{"id":21727,"date":"2024-03-21T05:36:34","date_gmt":"2024-03-21T00:06:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21727"},"modified":"2025-04-06T14:12:00","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T08:42:00","slug":"national-internet-exchange-of-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-internet-exchange-of-india\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was established in 2003 as a\u00a0not-for-profit organization\u00a0under the\u00a0Companies Act 2013.<\/li>\n<li>NIXI was set up\u00a0to extend the use of Internet Service Protocols (ISPs)\u00a0for the purpose of\u00a0routing domestic traffic within the country instead of taking it all the way abroad, thereby resulting in a better quality of service (reduced latency) and\u00a0reduced bandwidth charges\u00a0for ISPs by\u00a0saving on international bandwidth.<\/li>\n<li>It is\u00a0tasked to increase Internet penetration\u00a0and adoption\u00a0in India by facilitating the various infrastructure aspects to enable the Internet ecosystem to be managed and used by the masses.<\/li>\n<li>.IN is India\u2019s Country Code Top Level Domain (ccTLD). The\u00a0Government of India\u00a0delegated\u00a0the\u00a0operations of INRegistry to NIXI\u00a0in 2004. The INRegistry operates and manages India\u2019s.IN ccTLD.<\/li>\n<li>Another activity being carried out by NIXI is that of\u00a0National Internet Registry (NIR). The NIR is known as the\u00a0Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers (IRINN).<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0offers IXPs towards building Internet Exchange Points.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is Universal Acceptance (UA) Day?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Held annually and organized by the community-led Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG)\u00a0and the\u00a0Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), UA Day was established as a means to rally local, regional, and global stakeholders to\u00a0spread awareness and encourage UA adoption through a mix of virtual, in-person, and hybrid informational and training sessions.\n<ul>\n<li>UA is a technical requirement that\u00a0ensures all valid domain names and email addresses,\u00a0regardless of script, language, or\u00a0character length,\u00a0can be equally used by all\u00a0Internet-enabled applications, devices, and systems.<\/li>\n<li>Achieving UA ensures everybody has the ability to experience the full social and economic power of the Internet using their chosen domain name and email address that best align with their interests, business, culture, language, and script.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0first UA Day was held on 28 March 2023 and marked the first time a diverse set of technical and language communities, companies, governments, and Domain Name System (DNS) industry stakeholders mobilized to champion UA and a multilingual Internet on a global scale.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is the global organization responsible for managing the coordination and administration of the Internet&#8217;s unique identifiers.
