{"id":21727,"date":"2026-06-19T11:36:34","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T06:06:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21727"},"modified":"2026-06-19T13:04:23","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T07:34:23","slug":"national-internet-exchange-of-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-internet-exchange-of-india\/","title":{"rendered":"National Internet Exchange of India"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Internet Exchange of India Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) is celebrating its 23rd Foundation Day on June 19.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Internet Exchange of India<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>not-for-profit organization<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> set up under the aegis of the <\/span><b>Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Government of India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was established under section 8 of the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/indian-companies-act\/\" target=\"_blank\">Companies Act 2013<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Aim of NIXI:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To promote <\/span><b>internet penetration in<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the country as well as across the globe.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its Primary purpose is to <\/span><b>facilitate exchange of domestic Internet traffic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> between the peering ISP, Content players and any other organizations with their own AS number.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Functions of National Internet Exchange of India<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NIXI plays a critical role in strengthening <\/span><b>India\u2019s Internet infrastructure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by facilitating efficient exchange of domestic Internet traffic, managing the \u2018.IN\u2019 and (.Bharat) country-code top-level domains.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It facilitates <\/span><b>Internet Exchange services, and delegating IP addresses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (IPv4\/IPv6) through the <\/span><b>Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers (IRINN).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through its initiatives, NIXI supports a secure, resilient, and inclusive Internet ecosystem aligned with India\u2019s digital growth ambitions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It operates <\/span><b>79 Internet Exchange Points<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (IXPs) across the country and <\/span><b>supports domain names in 22 Indian languages<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, furthering its vision of a secure, resilient and inclusive internet ecosystem.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2274704&amp;reg=48&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National Internet Exchange of India is a not-for-profit organization set up under the aegis of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
