Congo and Uganda a global public health emergency under the International Health Regulations.<\/p>\n<h2><b>About Ebola<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a severe and often <\/span><b>deadly viral disease<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> caused by a group of viruses known as <\/span><b>orthoebolaviruses <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(formerly ebolavirus).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>severe contagious disease affecting humans<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>non-human primates.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ebola,<\/span><b> first identified in 1976 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in <\/span><b>southern Sudan and the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/democratic-republic-of-the-congo\/\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic Republic of Congo<\/a>, primarily affects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> remote villages in<\/span><b> Central and West Africa.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is known as a <\/span><b>hemorrhagic fever virus <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">because it can <\/span><b>cause problems with the clotting system <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the body and<\/span><b> lead to internal bleeding<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as blood leaks from small blood vessels.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Ebola <\/b><b>Transmission<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The virus is <\/span><b>transmitted to people from wild animals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (such as fruit bats, porcupines, and non-human primates).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It then <\/span><b>spreads in the human population through direct contact <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with the blood, secretions, organs, or other <\/span><b>bodily fluids <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of infected people<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and with <\/span><b>surfaces and materials contaminated with these fluids.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ebola<\/span><b> cannot be transmitted by air.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Infectious period<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Infected individuals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are <\/span><b>not contagious during the incubation period<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and become <\/span><b>infectious once they begin to develop symptoms.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They<\/span><b> remain infectious as long as the virus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is <\/span><b>present in the blood.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Ebola <\/b><b>Symptoms<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Incubation period<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Typically <\/span><b>5 to 15 days;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> range is 2 to 21 days.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Symptoms include <\/span><b>fever, diarrhea, vomiting, bleeding<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and often, <\/span><b>death<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>average <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ebola disease case <\/span><b>fatality rate i<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s around<\/span><b> 50%.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Case fatality rates have varied from <\/span><b>25\u201390% <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in past outbreaks.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Ebola <\/b><b>Treatment<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is <\/span><b>no known cure <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for Ebola.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are <\/span><b>no approved drugs or vaccines<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> available to treat EVD, although <\/span><b>experimental vaccines and therapeutics are being tested.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recovery seems to depend in part on how much virus a person was initially exposed to, how early treatment is started, and on the patient&#8217;s age and immune response.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chances of survival can be improved with<\/span><b> early supportive care.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Current therapy consists o<\/span><b>f maintenance of fluid and electrolyte balance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the
