{"id":21783,"date":"2024-03-22T06:03:25","date_gmt":"2024-03-22T00:33:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21783"},"modified":"2025-04-06T15:18:50","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T09:48:50","slug":"pibs-fact-check-unit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pibs-fact-check-unit\/","title":{"rendered":"PIB\u2019s Fact Check Unit"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About PIB\u2019s Fact Check Unit<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was established in November 2019.<\/li>\n<li>It was started with an\u00a0objective of acting as a deterrent to creators and disseminators of\u00a0fake news and misinformation.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It also provides people with an easy avenue to report suspicious and questionable information pertaining to the Government of India.<\/li>\n<li>It is mandated to counter misinformation on Government policies, initiatives and schemes either\u00a0suo motu or under a reference via complaints.<\/li>\n<li>The FCU actively monitors, detects, and counters disinformation campaigns, ensuring that false information about the Government is promptly exposed and corrected.<\/li>\n<li>Organisation\n<ul>\n<li>It is headed by a\u00a0senior DG\/ADG level officer of the Indian Information Service (IIS). The day-to-day operations of the Unit are handled by IIS officers at various levels.<\/li>\n<li>The Unit reports to the Principal Director General, PIB who functions as the Principal Spokesperson of the Government of India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Fact-Check Mechanism\n<ul>\n<li>Users send requests over\u00a0WhatsApp, email or a web portal. Each such request received is considered as a \u2018Query\u2019. Queries are segregated by the Unit based on their relevance to matters pertaining to Government of India.<\/li>\n<li>Only queries pertaining to Government of India are considered and taken up as Actionable Queries, while others are deemed not relevant for action.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the Press Information Bureau (PIB)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is the nodal agency of the Government of India to disseminate information to the print and electronic media on government policies, programmes, initiatives and achievements.
