


{"id":21795,"date":"2024-03-23T11:30:16","date_gmt":"2024-03-23T06:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21795"},"modified":"2025-10-06T12:35:20","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T07:05:20","slug":"reusable-landing-vehicle-rlv-lex-02","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/reusable-landing-vehicle-rlv-lex-02\/","title":{"rendered":"Reusable Landing Vehicle (RLV) LEX 02"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Reusable Landing Vehicle (RLV) LEX 02<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>This landing experiment is\u00a0the second of the series conducted at Aeronautical Test Range.<\/li>\n<li>After the RLV-LEX-01 mission was accomplished last year, RLV-LEX-02 demonstrated the autonomous landing capability of reusable launch vehicle (RLV) from off-nominal initial conditions at release from helicopter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How was the experiment conducted?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The RLV LEX-02 mission demonstrated\u00a0the autonomous landing capability of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/reusable-launch-vehicle\/\" target=\"_blank\"><u>reusable launch vehicle<\/u><\/a> from challenging initial conditions after release from a helicopter.<\/li>\n<li>It is named Pushpak, the winged vehicle was lifted by an Indian Air Force Chinook helicopter and released from an altitude of 4.5 km.<\/li>\n<li>It autonomously approached the runway with cross-range corrections and landed precisely, coming to a halt using its brake parachute, landing gear brakes, and nose wheel steering system<\/li>\n<li>The winged body and all flight\u00a0systems used in RLV-LEX-01 were reused in the RLV-LEX-02 mission after due certification\/ clearances.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The mission was accomplished by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/vikram-sarabhai\/\" target=\"_blank\"><u>Vikram Sarabhai<\/u><\/a> Space Centre (VSSC) along with the\u00a0Liquid Propulsion System Centre (LPSC) and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/isro\/\" target=\"_blank\"><u>ISRO<\/u><\/a> Inertial Systems Unit (IISU).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Reusable Launch Vehicle<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is essentially a space\u00a0plane with a low lift to drag ratio requiring an approach at high glide angles that necessitates a landing at high velocities of 350 kmph.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It utilises several indigenous systems.
