{"id":21927,"date":"2024-03-28T08:39:19","date_gmt":"2024-03-28T03:09:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21927"},"modified":"2025-04-06T16:16:42","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T10:46:42","slug":"mushk-budiji-rice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/mushk-budiji-rice\/","title":{"rendered":"Mushk budiji Rice"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Mushk budiji Rice<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an\u00a0indigenous aromatic rice variety that is usually grown at an altitude ranging from 5000 to 7000 ft above mean sea level\u00a0in Highland Himalayas.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is\u00a0short, bold aromatic rice grown in the higher reaches of Kashmir valley.<\/li>\n<li>The cooked rice is unique and possesses a harmonious blend of taste, aroma and rich organoleptic properties.<\/li>\n<li>It is mainly grown in areas of\u00a0Sagam, Panzgam and Soaf Shali of district Anantnag and Beerwah belt of district Budgam.<\/li>\n<li>The consumption of aromatic rice in Kashmir has now been limited to special occasions, marriages, and festivals.<\/li>\n<li>It has received a\u00a0Geographical Indication (GI) tag.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Highlights of the study<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Scientists conduct a study of selected locations on the flavour profile of mushk budiji using gas\u00a0chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) and an \u2018electronic nose\u2019.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Based on these studies, the scientists identified\u00a035 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in mushk budiji rice samples. Of these, the concentration of aldehydes (molecules containing the functional group -CH=O) ranged from 6.33% to 29.09% and alcohols (-OH) from 0.47% to 30.34%.<\/li>\n<li>Acetyl-1-pyrroline (2-AP) is a known aromatic compound found in some varieties \u2013 but it was present only in mushk budiji samples collected from higher altitudes, particularly in the districts of Budgam and Kupwara.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is Chromatography-mass spectroscopy?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an analytical method\u00a0used to reveal the\u00a0presence of volatile compounds present in organic mixtures extracted from geological, environmental, and biological samples.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is a geographical indication?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.
