{"id":21963,"date":"2024-03-29T11:11:55","date_gmt":"2024-03-29T05:41:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=21963"},"modified":"2025-10-11T10:51:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T05:21:07","slug":"covinet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/covinet\/","title":{"rendered":"What is CoViNet?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About CoViNet<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a\u00a0network of global laboratories with expertise\u00a0in human, animal and environmental coronavirus surveillance.<\/li>\n<li>It will identify and\u00a0monitor potentially novel coronaviruses that could emerge shortly.<\/li>\n<li>The network will now have animal health and environmental surveillance and timely risk assessment to feed WHO policies and protective measures.<\/li>\n<li>In low- and middle-income countries, CoViNet will support the building of more laboratories to monitor MERS-CoV and novel coronaviruses of public health importance.<\/li>\n<li>Data generated through CoViNet&#8217;s efforts will guide the work of WHO&#8217;s Technical Advisory Groups on Viral Evolution (TAG-VE) and Vaccine Composition (TAG-CO-VAC) and others, ensuring global health policies and tools are based on the latest scientific information.<\/li>\n<li>It currently comprises 36 laboratories from 21 countries in all six WHO regions.<\/li>\n<li>Three Indian laboratories namely; the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, the Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute of Virology in Pune, and the Translational Health Science and Technology Institute are part of this network.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key facts about World Health Organisation<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was\u00a0established in 1948, is a\u00a0specialized agency of the\u00a0United Nations that connects nations, partners and people to promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable \u2013 so everyone, everywhere can attain the highest level of health.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0governance structure of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/world-health-organisation\/\" target=\"_blank\"><u>WHO<\/u><\/a> is designed to support the implementation of its mandate and the achievement of its objectives.
