France officially declared Madagascar a French colony in 1896.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>After <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/world-war-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">World War II<\/a>, in 1947,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> locals fought for their independence from France in what became known as the <\/span><b>Malagasy Uprising.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>In 1960, Madagascar finally became an independent nation.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Capital: Antananarivo<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Languages: Malagasy, French<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Government<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It is a <\/span><b>semi-presidential republic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
