members of the Konda Reddi tribe have been gutted in a fire mishap reportedly due to a short circuit at Sarlanka village in Prathipadu Mandal in Kakinada district, Andhra Pradesh, recently.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Konda Reddi Tribe<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Konda Reddis is a<\/span><b> Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> inhabiting the <\/span><b>banks situated on either side of the Godavari River <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the hilly and forest tracts of the East and West Godavari and Khammam districts of <\/span><b>Andhra Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Language<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Their mother tongue is <\/span><b>Telugu <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in its purest and chaste form and a unique accent.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Religion<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The primary religion practiced by the Konda Reddi is <\/span><b>Folk Hinduism,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> characterized by local traditions and cults of local deities worshiped at the community level.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their main<\/span><b> festivals are Ugadi, Akshade, and Dussehra.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Family and Marriage:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The family is <\/span><b>patriarchal and patrilocal.<\/b> <b>Monogamy is a rule, but polygamous families are also found.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marriage by negotiations, by love and elopement, by service, by capture, and by exchange are socially accepted ways of acquiring mates.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Political Organization:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They have their<\/span><b> own institution of social control called \u2018Kula Panchayat\u2019.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Each village<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has a <\/span><b>traditional headman called \u2018Pedda Kapu\u2019.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>office of the headman is hereditary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the headman is <\/span><b>also the Pujari (priest) of the village deities.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Livelihood<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are <\/span><b>primarily shifting cultivators<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and largely <\/span><b>depend on the flora and fauna of fores<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">t for their livelihood.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They <\/span><b>eat a variety of tubers, roots, leaves, wild fruits,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They <\/span><b>collect and sell non-timber forest produce <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">like tamarind, adda leaves, myrobolan, broomsticks etc., to supplement their meagre income.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They largely<\/span><b> cultivate jowar,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which i<\/span><b>s their staple food.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Konda Reddi tribe\u2019s way of <\/span><b>life largely revolves around the cow,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which is a source of sustenance for them.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These tribal people are aggressive in the <\/span><b>cultivation of commercial crops such as cashew, niger, chilli, and cotton under the Podu cultivation method.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tribe has adopted a <\/span><b>unique circular-shaped architecture for housing.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The houses, built with circular mud walls and thatched roofs, <\/span><b>resemble <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the<\/span><b> Bhunga architecture of
