{"id":22023,"date":"2024-03-31T07:23:02","date_gmt":"2024-03-31T01:53:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=22023"},"modified":"2025-04-06T16:55:24","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T11:25:24","slug":"unesco-global-geoparks-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/unesco-global-geoparks-network\/","title":{"rendered":"UNESCO Global Geoparks Network"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About UNESCO Global Geoparks Network<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>These are <strong>single, unified geographical areas<\/strong> where sites and landscapes of international geological significance are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development.<\/li>\n<li>These comprise a number of geological heritage sites of special scientific importance, rarity or beauty.<\/li>\n<li>The UNESCO Global Geopark <strong>designation was created in 2015<\/strong>, and recognizes \u201cgeological heritage of international significance\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>The establishment of a UNESCO Global Geopark is <strong>a bottom-up<\/strong> process involving a strong local multiple partnership with long-term public and political support.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>not a formal legislative designation<\/strong>, though the defining geological heritage sites within a UNESCO Global Geopark must be protected under indigenous, local, regional or national legislation as appropriate.<\/li>\n<li>This status <strong>does not imply restrictions<\/strong> on any economic activity inside a UNESCO Global Geopark where that activity complies with indigenous, local, regional and\/or national legislation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Recognition Period:<\/strong> A UNESCO Global Geopark is given this designation <strong>for a period of four years<\/strong> after which the functioning of the site re-examined during a revalidation process.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Restrictions:<\/strong> The selling or destruction of the geological value of a UNESCO Global Geopark or of material either from within the Geopark or from anywhere else in the world is not permitted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Global Geoparks Network<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>non-profit International Association<\/strong> officially established in 2014 subject to French legislation.<\/li>\n<li>It is the official partner of UNESCO for the operation of the UNESCO Global Geoparks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is UNESCO?<\/h3>\n<p>It is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN).
