But unlike deepfake, which is created by using advanced artificial intelligence (AI) software, shallowfake can be\u00a0<strong>created by simply<\/strong>\u00a0using\u00a0<strong>basic editing software.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They\u00a0are\u00a0<strong>made with existing technologies<\/strong>\u2014for example, a conventional edit on a photo, slowing-down a video to change the speech patterns of an individual or more often, relying on mis-captioning or mis-contextualising an existing image or video, claiming it is from a time or place which it is not from.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>And precisely because of this easier way to create them, many experts consider shallowfakes to be\u00a0<strong>bigger threats than deepfakes.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Why are they called shallow?<\/strong>\u00a0The term \u2018shallow\u2019 implies the quality of such fakes, which are lower in quality compared to deepfakes.<\/li>\n<li>They\u00a0are\u00a0<strong>used to create a false proof<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>of identity<\/strong>\u00a0or address, including photo ID documents like passports, driving licences\u00a0etc.<\/li>\n<li>It is also used to\u00a0<strong>create fake supporting evidence<\/strong>\u00a0to support a claim or transaction, like contracts, agreements and invoices for services, no claims discount certificates, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What are Deepfakes?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Deepfakes are a\u00a0<strong>compilation of artificial images and audio\u00a0<\/strong>put together\u00a0<strong>with machine-learning algorithms<\/strong>\u00a0to spread misinformation and\u00a0replace a real person\u2019s appearance,\u00a0voice, or both with similar artificial likenesses or voices.\u00a0The term &#8220;deepfake<strong>&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong>combines the deep learning concept with something fake.<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0can\u00a0<strong>create people who do not exist<\/strong>\u00a0and it\u00a0can fake real people saying and doing things they did not say or do.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Working:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>They are\u00a0created by\u00a0<strong>machine learning models<\/strong>, which use neural networks to manipulate images and videos.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>To make a deepfake video of someone, a\u00a0creator would first train a neural network on many hours\u00a0of real video footage of the person\u00a0to give it a realistic \u201cunderstanding&#8221; of what he or she looks like from many angles and under different lighting.<\/li>\n<li>Then\u00a0they&#8217;d\u00a0combine the trained network with computer-graphics techniques\u00a0to superimpose a copy of the person onto a different actor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Deep fakes differ from other forms of false information by being\u00a0<strong>very difficult to identify as false.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Machine Learning?<\/h3>\n<p>Machine learning is an essential branch of artificial intelligence that employs data and algorithms to mimic human learning processes, gradually enhancing its accuracy.
