It is home to <strong>16 ethnic groups<\/strong>. Each group has their <strong>own languageand<\/strong> traditional <strong>attire<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Language<\/strong>: <strong>English<\/strong> is the <strong>official language<\/strong>; however, <strong>Krio<\/strong> is the language that is <strong>understoodby most<\/strong> of the population.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Government<\/strong>: It is a <strong>constitutional republic<\/strong> with a <strong>directly elected president<\/strong> and a <strong>unicameral legislature<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Capital<\/strong>: The capital, <strong>Freetown<\/strong>, commands one of the world\u2019s <strong>largest natural harbours.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Economy<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Although most of the population is engaged in <strong>subsistence agriculture<\/strong>, Sierra Leone is also a <strong>mining centre<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Its land yields <strong>diamonds, gold, bauxite,<\/strong> and <strong>rutile<\/strong> (titanium dioxide).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What are mangrove swamps?<\/h3>\n<p>Mangrove swamps are coastal wetlands found in tropical and subtropical regions. They are characterized by halophytic (salt loving) trees, shrubs and other plants growing in brackish to saline tidal waters.
