{"id":22228,"date":"2024-04-07T07:44:02","date_gmt":"2024-04-07T02:14:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=22228"},"modified":"2025-04-06T18:17:25","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T12:47:25","slug":"azad-hind-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/azad-hind-government\/","title":{"rendered":"Azad Hind Government"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Azad Hind Government<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In 1943<\/strong>, on October 21, Netaji Subhash Chandra <strong>Bose announced<\/strong> the formation of the \u2018<strong>Arzi Hukumat-e-Azad Hind\u2019<\/strong> or the <strong>provincial government of free Indiain Singapore<\/strong> and declared war on the British Empire.<\/li>\n<li>Under the provisional Government, <strong>Bose was<\/strong> the <strong>Head of State, Prime Minister,<\/strong> and <strong>Minister of War<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Captain Lakshmiheaded<\/strong> the <strong>women\u2019s organisation<\/strong> while <strong>SA Ayer headed<\/strong> the <strong>publicity wing<\/strong> in the newly formed government.<\/li>\n<li>Revolutionary leader <strong>Ras Behari Bose<\/strong> was designated as the <strong>supreme adviser<\/strong> by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The government was <strong>supported by the Axis powers<\/strong> of Imperial Japan, Nazi Germany, the Italian Social Republic, and their allies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Significance of the Azad Hind government<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Soon after the formation of the government, the Azad Hind government <strong>proclaimed authority over Indian civilian and military personnel inSoutheast Asian British colonial territory<\/strong> and prospective authority over Indian territory to fall to the Japanese forces and the Indian National Army during the Second World War.<\/li>\n<li>The provisional government not only enabled Bose to negotiate with the Japanese on an equal footing but also allowed him to <strong>mobilise Indians living in East Asia to join <\/strong>and support the <strong>Indian National Army (INA).\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Indian National Armydrew ex-prisoners <\/strong>and thousands of <strong>civilian volunteer<\/strong>s <strong>from<\/strong> the <strong>Indian expatriate population in Malaya<\/strong> (present-day Malaysia) <strong>and Burma<\/strong> (now Myanmar).<\/li>\n<li>The provisional government was <strong>also formed in<\/strong> the Japanese-occupied <strong>Andaman and Nicobar Islands<\/strong>. The islands were <strong>reoccupied by the British<\/strong> in 1945.<\/li>\n<li>The Azad Hind government under Bose had in fact started its <strong>own bank, currency, civil code, and stamps.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Bose had even formed the<strong> first women\u2019s regiment of the INA, the Rani Jhansi Regiment,<\/strong> thus laying the foundation for equal opportunity for women in armed forces.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the Indian National Army (INA)?<\/h3>\n<p>The INA was formed during World War II by Indian nationalists and prisoners of war dedicated to winning India\u2019s independence from the British Empire. The first Indian National Army (INA) was formed in September 1942 under Captain Mohan Singh. It comprised around 12,000 Indian prisoner of wars (PoWs) willing to secure independence from British rule in alliance with Japanese assistance. Supported by the Japanese army and led by Subhas Chandra Bose, the INA established its own provisional government and initiated an attack against the British in India.
