{"id":22248,"date":"2024-04-07T02:45:05","date_gmt":"2024-04-06T21:15:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=22248"},"modified":"2025-04-06T18:25:39","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T12:55:39","slug":"phanigiri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/phanigiri\/","title":{"rendered":"Phanigiri"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Phanigiri<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a famous <strong>Buddhist site located <\/strong>110 km away from Hyderabad.<\/li>\n<li>This site derived its name from the shape of the hillock, which appears to be like a <strong>snake hood.<\/strong> The word Phani in Sanskrit means snake and Giri means hillock.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is believed to be one of the important Buddhist monasteries strategically located on the <strong>ancient trade route<\/strong> (Dakshinapatha) connecting the west and the east coast of the Deccan.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Other findings of the excavation<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Coins:<\/strong> Lead coins with elephant symbol on one side and Ujjain symbol on the other side are found.<\/li>\n<li>According to the archaeologists, the coins belong to the <strong>Ikshvaku period <\/strong>dated between 3rd century and 4th century Common Era.<\/li>\n<li>Also stone beads, glass beads, shell bangle fragments, stucco motifs, broken limestone sculptures, a wheel of a toy cart, final nails and pottery are excavated.<\/li>\n<li>Mahastupa, apsidal Chaityagrihas, Votive stupas, pillared congregation halls, Viharas, platforms with staircases at various levels, octagonal stupa chaitya, 24-pillared mandapam, circular chaitya, and cultural materials that included <strong>terracotta beads, semi-precious beads<\/strong>, iron objects, <strong>Brahmi label inscriptions<\/strong> and holy relic casket are also excavated.<\/li>\n<li>All the cultural material is datable from the <strong>1st century BCE to 4th century CE.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is a stupa?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a hemispherical or dome-shaped structure that contains relics of the Buddha or other sacred objects.
