{"id":22284,"date":"2025-10-27T10:10:32","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T04:40:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=22284"},"modified":"2025-10-28T16:36:41","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T11:06:41","slug":"mangal-pandey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/mangal-pandey\/","title":{"rendered":"Mangal Pandey"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Mangal Pandey<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Mangal Pandey played a crucial role in India&#8217;s first rebellion against British rule in 1857.<\/li>\n<li>He is considered the hero of the first war of Independence, also known as the <strong>Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Early life<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>He was born on July 19, 1827near Faizabad in <strong>Uttar Pradesh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In 1849, Pandey joined the army of the British East India Company and served as a sepoy in the 6th Company of the <strong>34th Bengal Native Infantry<\/strong> in Barrackpore.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rebellion against East India Company<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>He revolted against the East India Company for <strong>introducing cartridges<\/strong> that were greased with animal fat as it hurt the religious sentiments of the soldiers..<\/li>\n<li>This movement of rebels reached other parts of India and led to a mass revolt against the colonial rulers. Common people too came out and opposed anti-India laws.<\/li>\n<li>On March 29, 1857, Pandey mutinied and fired at his <strong>Senior Sergeant Major.<\/strong> He was overpowered and <strong>hanged on April 8, 1857,<\/strong> by the order of a Court Martial at Lal Bagan in Barrackpore.
