{"id":22284,"date":"2026-07-20T10:10:32","date_gmt":"2026-07-20T04:40:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=22284"},"modified":"2026-07-20T13:49:23","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T08:19:23","slug":"mangal-pandey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/mangal-pandey\/","title":{"rendered":"Mangal Pandey"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Mangal Pandey Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prime Minister recently paid tributes to the great revolutionary Mangal Pandey ji on his birth anniversary. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Mangal Pandey<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was a brave<\/span><b> Indian soldier<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during the <\/span><b>pre-independence era.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His <\/span><b>attack on British officers on March 29, 1857<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, was the<\/span><b> first major incident<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of what came to be known as the<\/span><b> first war of Independence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, also known as the <\/span><b>Indian Mutiny\/Sepoy mutiny.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was <\/span><b>born <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on July 19, <\/span><b>1827, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ballia district in<\/span><b> Uttar Pradesh.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>1849<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Pandey<\/span><b> joined the army <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the British East India Company at the <\/span><b>age of 22<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He served as a <\/span><b>sepoy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 6th Company of the<\/span><b> 34th Bengal Native Infantry in Barrackpore.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He <\/span><b>revolted <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">against the East India Company <\/span><b>for introducing cartridges<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that were <\/span><b>greased with animal fat, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as it <\/span><b>hurt the religious sentiments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the soldiers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mangal Pandey <\/span><b>attacked two British officers on March 29, 1857<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following this, he was <\/span><b>hanged to death <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on April 8, 1857, in Barrackpore.
