{"id":22296,"date":"2024-10-27T02:08:28","date_gmt":"2024-10-26T20:38:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=22296"},"modified":"2025-10-28T16:32:21","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T11:02:21","slug":"tsat-1a","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/tsat-1a\/","title":{"rendered":"What is TSAT-1A?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About TSAT-1A<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an optical sub-metre-resolution <strong>Earth observation satellite<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It was built by <strong>Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL)<\/strong> in <strong>collaboration with<\/strong> Latin American company <strong>Satellogic Inc,<\/strong> following a collaboration agreement between the two companies in late November 2023.<\/li>\n<li>TSAT-1A was assembled in TASL&#8217;s Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) plant at its Vemagal facility in Karnataka.<\/li>\n<li>It was <strong>launched bySpaceX&#8217;s Falcon 9 rocket<\/strong> from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, in the US.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>TSAT-1A&#8217;s core strength lies in its ability to <strong>capture military grade imagery<\/strong> of Earth&#8217;s surface with <strong>sub-meter resolution.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is equipped with both <strong>multispectral and hyperspectral imaging capabilities<\/strong>. This technology allows TSAT-1A to collect data across a wide range of wavelengths within the electromagnetic spectrum, providing a deeper and more nuanced understanding of land, water, and various natural resources.<\/li>\n<li>TSAT-1A boasts <strong>greater collection capacity<\/strong>, a wider <strong>dynamic range<\/strong> (the ability to capture detail in both very bright and very dark areas), and <strong>low-latency<\/strong> delivery of data.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>This satellite will be <strong>used by Indian defense forces<\/strong> to <strong>gather discreet information,<\/strong> and this information will be <strong>shared with friendly nations<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It can enable defence forces to enhance their preparedness, response capabilities, and strategic decision making.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While India has a few military spy satellites built by <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/isro\/\" target=\"_blank\">ISRO<\/a>, this is the<strong> first such initiative in the private sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is hyperspectral imaging?<\/h3>\n<p>Hyperspectral imaging is the capturing and processing of an image at a very large number of wavelengths. Whereas multispectral imaging might evaluate an image in three or four colors (red, green, blue and near-infrared (NIR), for example), hyperspectral imaging breaks the image down into tens or hundreds of colors.
