{"id":22320,"date":"2026-05-30T12:39:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-30T07:09:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=22320"},"modified":"2026-05-30T14:17:02","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T08:47:02","slug":"lavender-cultivation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/lavender-cultivation\/","title":{"rendered":"Lavender Cultivation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Lavender Cultivation Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, is set to organize the 4th Lavender Festival under the theme, \u201dLavender goes global\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Lavender<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lavandula (common name lavender) is a genus of 47 known species of <\/span><b>flowering plants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><b>mint family, Lamiaceae.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a small, perennial <\/span><b>aromatic herb shrub.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The flowers may be blue, violet or lilac in the wild species, occasionally blackish purple or yellowish.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These flowers grow in <\/span><b>temperate areas and are drought-resistant crops.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A single lavender <\/span><b>plant bears flowers for up to 15 years,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> requires minimal maintenance, and can be harvested from the second year onward.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>crop native to Europe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but was introduced in the temperate regions of <\/span><b>Jammu &amp;Kashmir<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> state by the <\/span><b>CSIR Aroma Mission<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Propagation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Propagation of lavender can be done by seeds, rooted cuttings, tissue culture, and layering.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Applications:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Food and flavouring, Pharmaceutical and therapeutic, Cosmetic, and Industrial purposes etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Required Climatic Conditions<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Climate:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is a <\/span><b>hard and temperate plant that<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can tolerate drought and frost conditions. The ideal climatic conditions are cool winters and cool summers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It requires a good amount of sunlight.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Soil:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It can grow well in <\/span><b>light well-aerated soil rich with organic matter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
