{"id":22340,"date":"2024-04-10T06:55:13","date_gmt":"2024-04-10T01:25:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=22340"},"modified":"2025-04-06T19:02:37","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T13:32:37","slug":"c-dome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/c-dome\/","title":{"rendered":"What is C-Dome?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About C-Dome<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>naval version ofIsrael\u2019s Iron Dome air defence<\/strong> system, used to shield against rocket and missile attacks.\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Iron Dome<\/strong>, which was activated in 2011 and has an ef<strong>fectiveness of about 90%, <\/strong>works by using radars to detect short-range rockets before destroying them with its own missiles.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>C-Dome, <\/strong>which was first unveiled in 2014, <strong>declared operational in<\/strong> November <strong>2022,<\/strong> works similarly to the Iron Dosme, using some of the <strong>same technology,<\/strong> except that it\u2019s <strong>mounted on ships.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is mounted on Sa\u2019ar 6-class corvettes, German-made warships, and <strong>uses the same interceptor as the Iron Dome.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Unlike the Iron Dome<\/strong>, which has its own dedicated radar, the C<strong>-Dome is integratedinto the ship\u2019s radar<\/strong> to detect incoming targets.<\/li>\n<li>C-Dome <strong>ensures full-circular vessel protection<\/strong> and <strong>high kill probability<\/strong> against a full spectrum of modern threats\u2014maritime and coastal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Facts about Iron Dome<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is <strong>Israel\u2019s air missile defense system<\/strong> that can <strong>defend against short-range rockets<\/strong>, <strong>intercepting them in the air<\/strong> above the state.<\/li>\n<li>It is capable of successfully <strong>handling multiple rockets<\/strong> at a time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems<\/strong> and <strong>Israel Aerospace Industries<\/strong>, the system became operational in March 2011.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>It is powered by <strong>missile-defense batteries<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It has <strong>all-weather capabilities<\/strong> and is able to function night or day.<\/li>\n<li>It is able to <strong>launch a variety of interceptor missiles<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is designed to shoot down missiles with a <strong>range of about40 miles or less.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It also has the <strong>ability to be moved<\/strong>, either onto ships or across land, to better suit defense needs.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>must be reloadedto continuously intercept<\/strong> incoming missiles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Iron Dome operates through <strong>three main components:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A <strong>radar<\/strong> that detects incoming rockets,<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>command-and-control system<\/strong> that determines the threat level,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>An interceptor<\/strong> that seeks to destroy the incoming rocket before it strikes.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is a Radar?<\/h3>\n<p>RADAR stands for \u2018Radio Detection And Ranging\u2019 and is an active transmission and reception method in the microwave GHz range. Radar sensors are used for contactless detection, tracking, and positioning of one or more objects by means of electromagnetic waves. The radar antenna emits a signal in the form of radar waves, which move at the speed of light and are not perceivable by humans. When the waves hit objects, the signal changes and is reflected back to the sensor \u2013 similarly to an echo.
