Two are native to mainland <strong>Africa<\/strong>, six to <strong>Madagascar<\/strong>, and one to <strong>Australia.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Mandu, in the Dhar district of <strong>Madhya Pradesh<\/strong>, is perhaps the only place in India where baobab trees are found in abundance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It can live to become thousands of years old.<\/li>\n<li>They only have very <strong>faint growth rings<\/strong>. Mature trees have massive trunks that are <strong>bottle-shaped<\/strong> or cylindrical and tapered from bottom to top.<\/li>\n<li>The fruit of the tree is round or oval-shaped and is highly nutritious.<\/li>\n<li>It is also known as \u2018<strong>Tree of Life\u2019<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ecological significance<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Baobabs are <strong>keystone species<\/strong> in Madagascar&#8217;s unique landscapes.<\/li>\n<li>Their massive trunks and extensive root systems are vital <strong>for storing water in arid environments,<\/strong> providing a critical resource for both the trees and the surrounding ecosystem during drought periods.<\/li>\n<li>This ability to store water enables baobabs to support a wide array of life, from microorganisms to larger animals, fostering biodiversity in their habitats.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What are keystone species?<\/h3>\n<p>It is an organism that helps define an entire ecosystem. Without its keystone species, the ecosystem would be dramatically different or cease to exist altogether.
