


{"id":22549,"date":"2024-04-16T06:57:54","date_gmt":"2024-04-16T01:27:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=22549"},"modified":"2025-04-06T20:26:20","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T14:56:20","slug":"what-are-bumblebees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-are-bumblebees\/","title":{"rendered":"What are Bumblebees?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Bumblebees:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>They are <strong>large, hairy, social bees<\/strong> belonging to the <strong>family Apidae<\/strong> (subfamily Bombinae).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o The <strong>family Apidaeincludes<\/strong> the well-known <strong>honey bees <\/strong>and bumble bees<strong>,<\/strong> as well as carpenter bees, cuckoo bees, digger bees, stingless bees, and orchid bees.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Distribution<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>They occur throughout <strong>much of the world<\/strong> but are most <strong>common in temperate climates.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>There are over <strong>250 known species<\/strong>, existing <strong>primarily in the Northern Hemisphere.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>They are known for their ability to <strong>collect nectar<\/strong> from flowers <strong>and pollinate plants.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Features<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>They are <strong>large, yellow,and black<\/strong> flying insects with a <strong>distinct buzz<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>There is variation in coloration among bumblebees, <strong>and some species have bands of red, yellow, and black.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They have <strong>stocky bodies<\/strong> that are <strong>covered with many hairs<\/strong> to which pollen adheres.<\/li>\n<li>Bumblebees have <strong>four wings<\/strong>; the two rear wings are small and usually attached to the fore wings by a row of hooks called hamuli.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>wings move rapidly<\/strong>, at 130-240 beats per second.<\/li>\n<li>They are <strong>social insects that live in colonies<\/strong>. The queen bee, drones, and worker bees all have specific tasks to help support the colony.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Unlike the honeybee, bumblebees <strong>do not make honey<\/strong>, as they <strong>do not need to store food for winter<\/strong>. Instead, the season\u2019s new queens hibernate and emerge to find their own nests in the spring.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What are Pesticides?<\/h3>\n<p>Pesticides are chemical compounds that are used to kill pests, including insects, rodents, fungi and unwanted plants (weeds).
