{"id":22593,"date":"2025-08-01T12:00:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-01T06:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=22593"},"modified":"2025-08-01T12:40:23","modified_gmt":"2025-08-01T07:10:23","slug":"un-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/un-women\/","title":{"rendered":"UN Women"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>UN Women Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the UN Women celebrated its 15<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> anniversary.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About UN Women<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the United Nations (UN) entity dedicated to <\/span><b>gender equality and the empowerment of women.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>created in July 2010<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the UN General Assembly.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>The main roles of UN Women are:<\/b>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards, and norms.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To help member states implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To lead and coordinate the UN system\u2019s work on gender equality as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It works globally to make the vision of the <\/span><b>Sustainable Development Goals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SDG\u2019s) a reality for women and girls and stands behind women\u2019s equal participation in all aspects of life.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Within countries that request its assistance, <\/span><b>UN Women works with government and non-governmental partners<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to help them put in place the policies, laws, services, and resources that women require to move towards equality.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Grant-making Funds:<\/b> <b>UN Women provides grants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to fuel innovative, high-impact programmes by government agencies and civil society groups through two funds\u2014the Fund for Gender Equality and the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Commission on the Status of Women (CSW):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A global policy-making body, the CSW is a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), dedicated exclusively to <\/span><b>gender equality and the advancement of women.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aside from the CSW, UN Women offers regular information on women\u2019s rights issues to the General Assembly, the ECOSOC, and the Security Council.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>maintains the UN Secretary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-General\u2019s <\/span><b>database on violence against women,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which tracks measures to end violence taken by UN Member States and UN organizations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/en\/story\/2025\/07\/1165522\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UN<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UN Women is the United Nations (UN) entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women.
