


{"id":22609,"date":"2024-04-19T01:17:32","date_gmt":"2024-04-18T19:47:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=22609"},"modified":"2025-04-06T20:49:54","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T15:19:54","slug":"gross-fixed-capital-formation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/gross-fixed-capital-formation\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>GFCF refers to the <strong>growth in<\/strong> the size of <strong>fixed capital <\/strong>in an economy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fixed assets\/<\/strong>capital are <strong>tangible or intangible assets<\/strong> produced as <strong>outputs from production<\/strong> processes that are <strong>used repeatedly<\/strong>, or continuously, <strong>for more than one year.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>GFCF <strong>consists of resident producers\u2019 investments<\/strong>, <strong>deducting disposals<\/strong>, <strong>in fixed assets<\/strong> during a given period.<\/li>\n<li>It also <strong>includes certain additions to<\/strong> the <strong>value of non-produced assets<\/strong> realized by producers or institutional units.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Private GFCF<\/strong> can serve as a <strong>rough indicator<\/strong> of <strong>how much the private sector<\/strong> in an economy is <strong>willing to invest.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Overall GFCF<\/strong> also <strong>includes capital formation<\/strong> as a result of investment <strong>by the government.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>GFCF matters because fixed capital, by helping workers produce a greater amount of goods and services each year, <strong>helps to boost economic growth<\/strong> and improve living standards.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>In other words, fixed capital is what largely <strong>determines the overall output of an economy<\/strong> and, hence, what consumers can actually purchase in the market.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Developed economies<\/strong> such as the U.S. <strong>possess more fixed capitalper capita<\/strong> than developing economies such as India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Statistics:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>GFCF<\/strong> in the Indian economy increased significantly from <strong>INR 32.78 lakh crore in 2014-15 to INR 54.35 lakh crore in 2022-2023.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This surge in capital formation reflects substantial investments in infrastructure, industry, and public goods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Gross Domestic Product (GDP)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is the total monetary or market value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country\u2019s borders in a specific time period.
