


{"id":22912,"date":"2024-04-29T06:14:11","date_gmt":"2024-04-29T00:44:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=22912"},"modified":"2025-10-11T12:29:42","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T06:59:42","slug":"green-taxonomy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/green-taxonomy\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Green Taxonomy?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Green Taxonomy:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A green taxonomy is a <strong>framework for defining<\/strong> what can be called <strong>environmentally sustainable investments.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is a <strong>classification system<\/strong> that <strong>defines which economic activities<\/strong> and assets <strong>are \u201cgreen\u201d<\/strong> or environmentally sustainable.<\/li>\n<li>Green taxonomies are useful instruments, and they have several complementary purposes:\n<ul>\n<li>Taxonomies help <strong>prevent greenwashing<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>Taxonomies <strong>help investors make informed investment decisions<\/strong>; and<\/li>\n<li>Taxonomies <strong>channel investment toward<\/strong> sustainable or <strong>green economic activities <\/strong>and assets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Structurally, all taxonomies are similar. So far, they all <strong>include the goals of climate mitigation and adaptation<\/strong>, and some <strong>also include other environmental objectives<\/strong> such as biodiversity conservation, for example.<\/li>\n<li>To be considered green, an activity must substantially contribute to at least one of the environmental objectives.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Often, taxonomies also include \u201cdo no significant harm\u201d criteria<\/strong> (i.e., an activity that substantially contributes to one environmental objective should not harm another environmental objective) and <strong>social safeguards<\/strong> (i.e., compliance with human rights).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Some taxonomies only definewhat is green,<\/strong> and <strong>others,<\/strong> such as the recently launched Indonesian taxonomy or the proposed Singaporean taxonomy, <strong>use a \u201ctraffic light\u201d approach, <\/strong>where the <strong>economic activities are split into different categories<\/strong> (i.e. green, amber, or red) to classify their environmental sustainability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is Greenwashing?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the process of <strong>conveying a false impression<\/strong> or <strong>misleading information about how a company\u2019s products are environmentally sound<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Greenwashing involves making an unsubstantiated claim <strong>to deceive consumers into believing that a company\u2019s products<\/strong> are environmentally friendly or <strong>have a greater<\/strong> positive <strong>environmental impact than they actually do<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In addition, greenwashing may occur when a company attempts to <strong>emphasize sustainable aspects<\/strong> of a product <strong>to overshadow its i<\/strong>nvolvement in <strong>environmentally damaging practice<\/strong>s.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Companies can also greenwash initiatives <strong>with vague claims<\/strong> that <strong>don&#8217;t provide real data <\/strong>or scientific validation for the claims.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a regional intergovernmental organisation of ten Southeast Asian countries. It was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration).
