{"id":23016,"date":"2026-01-13T14:30:01","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T09:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23016"},"modified":"2026-01-16T11:59:41","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T06:29:41","slug":"shaksgam-valley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/shaksgam-valley\/","title":{"rendered":"Shaksgam Valley"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Why Shaksgam Valley in News?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>China has <strong data-start=\"234\" data-end=\"281\">rejected India\u2019s territorial claim<\/strong> over the Shaksgam Valley in the Jammu &amp; Kashmir region, insisting the area is part of <strong data-start=\"368\" data-end=\"389\">Chinese territory.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>About Shaksgam Valley<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Shaksgam Valley, or <strong>Trans Karakoram Tract,<\/strong> is <strong>part of the Hunza-Gilgit region<\/strong> of <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pakistan-occupied-kashmir\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir<\/strong><\/a> (POK) and is a <strong>disputed territory claimed by India<\/strong> but <strong>controlled by Pakistan<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>borders Xinjiang Province of<\/strong> the People\u2019s Republic of <strong>China<\/strong> (PRC) to the north, the Northern Areas of POK to the south and west, and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/siachen-glacier\/\" target=\"_blank\">Siachen Glacier<\/a> region<\/strong> to the east.<\/li>\n<li>It was <strong>ceded to China by Pakistan in 1963,<\/strong> when both countries signed a <strong>boundary agreement<\/strong> to settle their border differences.<\/li>\n<li>However, <strong>Article 6 of the agreement<\/strong> clearly stated that \u201cthe two parties have agreed that <strong>after the settlement of the Kashmir dispute<\/strong> between Pakistan and India, the <strong>sovereign authority concerned will reopen negotiations with<\/strong> the Government of the People&#8217;s Republic of <strong>China, on the boundary<\/strong> as described in Article Two of the present agreement, so as <strong>to sign a formal Boundary Treaty to replace the present agreement.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The agreement <strong>laid the foundation of Karakoram highway,<\/strong> which was <strong>built jointly by Chinese and Pakistani<\/strong> engineers in the 1970s.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/india\/india-protest-china-infra-development-shaksgam-valley-9303777\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"ytb-video-wrapper\">\n        <div class=\"ytb-video-inner\">\n            <iframe \n                src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/84LR-RGoV5Q\" \n                width=\"560\" \n                height=\"315\" \n                frameborder=\"0\" \n                allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" \n                allowfullscreen>\n            <\/iframe>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Shaksgam Valley is part of the Hunza-Gilgit region of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) and is a disputed territory claimed by India but controlled by Pakistan.
