{"id":23084,"date":"2024-05-05T12:37:31","date_gmt":"2024-05-05T07:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23084"},"modified":"2025-04-07T00:07:56","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T18:37:56","slug":"what-is-lakshya-aircraft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-lakshya-aircraft\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Lakshya Aircraft?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Lakshya Aircraft<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an indigenously developed <strong>micro-light<\/strong> and <strong>pilot-less target aircraft<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It designed and <strong>built by the Aeronautical Development Establishment<\/strong> (ADE), a <strong>subsidiary o<\/strong>f the Defence Research and Development Organization (<strong>DRDO<\/strong>), for the Indian Armed Forces.<\/li>\n<li>The Lakshya was inducted into the Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, and Indian Army in 2000, 2001, and 2003, respectively.<\/li>\n<li>It is a <strong>cost-effective re-usable high subsonic aerial target system<\/strong> powered by a <strong>gas turbine engine.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>engine is designed<\/strong> and manufactured <strong>by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited<\/strong> (HAL) in Bangalore.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>required for<\/strong> evaluation and development <strong>trials of new surface-to-air and air-to-air weapon systems.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It <strong>carries two tow targets<\/strong> of tow lengths of 1.5 km <strong>each, having radar<\/strong>, IR or visual signature augmentation, and a <strong>Miss Distance Indication Scoring System.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>These tow targets are <strong>used for training of <\/strong>land- or ship-based<strong> gun and missile crew and combat aircraft pilots in weapon engagement<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It was designed to <strong>launch either from land or sea<\/strong> through a zero-length launcher and be <strong>recovered by a dual stage parachute system<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The Lakshya can be <strong>controlled from the ground control station<\/strong> (GCS) through pre-programmed hardware and software systems.<\/li>\n<li>Designed to be <strong>reused for 15 missions<\/strong>, the aircraft can spiflicate airborne incoming enemy targets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is the R&amp;D wing of the Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India, with a vision to empower India with cutting-edge defence technologies and a mission to achieve self-reliance in critical defence technologies and systems.
