{"id":23152,"date":"2024-05-07T03:56:15","date_gmt":"2024-05-06T22:26:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23152"},"modified":"2025-10-10T12:11:52","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T06:41:52","slug":"fusobacterium-nucleatum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/fusobacterium-nucleatum\/","title":{"rendered":"Fusobacterium Nucleatum"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Fusobacterium nucleatum :<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Fusobacteria are <strong>Gram-negative anaerobic bacilli<\/strong> with species-specific reservoirs in the <strong>human mouth, gastrointestinal tract<\/strong> and elsewhere.<\/li>\n<li>It has long been considered as an opportunistic pathogen given its frequent isolation and identification in anaerobic samples from patients with different infections.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Highlights of the research<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The researchers first analyzed the <strong>genomes of F. nucleatum<\/strong> types taken from human colorectal tumors and from the mouths of people without cancer. Out of its several known subspecies, only one, called <strong>F. nucleatum animalis (or Fna),<\/strong> was routinely found in the tumor samples.<\/li>\n<li>Additional genetic analyses revealed that Fna could be divided even further, into two separate groups.<\/li>\n<li>While both groups were found in about equal proportions in the mouth, only one, <strong>dubbed Fna C2<\/strong>, was found in colorectal tumor <strong>samples in substantial numbers.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Fna C2\u2019s <strong>higher resistance to acid<\/strong>, which could allow it to potentially reach the intestines directly from the mouth, through the stomach.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Fna C2 also had the ability to <strong>hide inside certain tumor <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/cell-structure-and-organelles\/\" target=\"_blank\">cells<\/a>, which could protect it from the immune system. And it was able to use nutrients found in the gastrointestinal tract, which are very different from those found in the mouth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Gram-negative bacteria?<\/h3>\n<p>Gram-negative bacteria are classified by the color they turn after a chemical process called Gram staining is used on them.
