Sticky clay, sandy, alluvial, brackish and <strong>calcareous soils<\/strong> are <strong>not suitable<\/strong> for arecanut cultivation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rain: It <\/strong>can be grown in areas receiving annual <strong>rainfall of 750 mm.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Altitude:<\/strong> It can be cultivated upto an altitude of 1000 m from mean sea level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>India is the largest producer<\/strong> of arecanut and at the same time largest consumer also.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Major states cultivating this crop are <strong>Karnataka <\/strong>(40%), <strong>Kerala<\/strong> (25%), <strong>Assam<\/strong> (20%), Tamil Nadu, <strong>Meghalaya and West Bengal.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Q1: What is Loam soil?<\/h2>\n<p>It is a type of soil that is a mixture of sand, silt, and clay.
