


{"id":23235,"date":"2024-05-10T09:21:22","date_gmt":"2024-05-10T03:51:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23235"},"modified":"2025-04-07T01:09:44","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T19:39:44","slug":"sonai-rupai-wildlife-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sonai-rupai-wildlife-sanctuary\/","title":{"rendered":"Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a protected area located in the north-western area of Sonitpur district of <strong>Assam<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is located along the <strong>foothills of the Great Himalayan Range<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It covers an approximate area of about 200 sq km.<\/li>\n<li>The area was declared a sanctuary in 1998.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Climate<\/strong>: The sanctuary experiences a <strong>sub-tropical type<\/strong> of climate with <strong>hot and humid summers,<\/strong> with <strong>heavy summer rains<\/strong> often causing floods and river overflows.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Burhidihing River<\/strong> traces its course through the sanctuary.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Namchang River,flowing from<\/strong> the state of <strong>Arunachal Pradesh, enters this region<\/strong> and <strong>joins the Burhidihing River<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora<\/strong>:\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>It mostly comprises <strong>evergreen forest.<\/strong> However, <strong>grasslands<\/strong> are also common in this region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>main attractions<\/strong> of the sanctuary are <strong>Elephant and Indian bison<\/strong>. The other animals found in the sanctuary are <strong>deer, one-horned rhinoceros, leopard<\/strong>, tiger and some rare species of cats.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Avifauna<\/strong> includes <strong>endangered species like White Winged Wood Duck<\/strong>. Other birds commonly found here are <strong>Woodpecker, Hill Myna, Indian Roller<\/strong>, Nightjar, Horned Owl, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the Great Himalayan Range?<\/h3>\n<p>Great Himalayas, highest and northernmost section of the Himalayan mountain ranges. It extends southeastward across northern Pakistan, northern India, and Nepal before trending eastward across Sikkim state (India) and Bhutan and finally turning northeastward across northern Arunachal Pradesh state (India); throughout nearly all of its length it adjoins to the north the southern Tibet Autonomous Region of China. The range\u2019s total length is some 1,400 miles (2,300 km), and it has an average elevation of more than 20,000 feet (6,100 metres).
