{"id":23239,"date":"2024-05-10T01:55:56","date_gmt":"2024-05-09T20:25:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23239"},"modified":"2025-10-11T12:17:28","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T06:47:28","slug":"global-biofuel-alliance-gba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/global-biofuel-alliance-gba\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA):<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>GBA is a multi-stakeholder <strong>alliance of Governments<\/strong>, <strong>International Organizations,<\/strong> and <strong>Industries<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is an <strong>initiative by India,bringing together<\/strong> the <strong>biggest consumers and producers ofbiofuels<\/strong> to drive the development and deployment of biofuels.<\/li>\n<li>It was <strong>launched<\/strong> on the sidelines of the <strong>2023<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/g20\/\" target=\"_blank\">G20 summit<\/a><strong> in New Delhi.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The initiative <strong>aims to position <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/biofuels\/\" target=\"_blank\">biofuels<\/a> as a <strong>key to the energy transition<\/strong> and contribute to jobs and economic growth.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Significance of the alliance:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It will place emphasis on <strong>strengthening markets<\/strong>, fa<strong>cilitating global biofuels trade,<\/strong> development of <strong>concrete policy lesson-sharing<\/strong> and provision of <strong>technical support<\/strong> for national biofuels programs worldwide.<\/li>\n<li>It intends to <strong>expedite the global uptake of biofuels<\/strong> through facilitating capacity-building exercises across the value chain, technology advancements, and intensifying the utilization of sustainable biofuels through the participation of a wide spectrum of stakeholders.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/gba\/\" target=\"_blank\">GBA<\/a> will <strong>facilitate<\/strong> the development, adoption, and <strong>implementation of internationally recognized standards<\/strong>, codes, sustainability principles, and regulations to incentivize biofuel adoption and trade.<\/li>\n<li>The alliance will also act as a <strong>central repository of knowledge <\/strong>and an expert hub.<\/li>\n<li>24 countries and 12 international organizations have already agreed to join the alliance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is Biofuel?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a fuel that is <strong>produced over a short time span from biomass<\/strong>, rather than by the very slow natural processes involved in the formation of fossil fuels, such as oil.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Different Generations of Biofuel:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>First generation:<\/strong> They are made <strong>from sugar, starch, vegetable oil<\/strong>, or animal fats <strong>using conventional technology<\/strong>. Common first-generation biofuels <strong>include Bioalcohols, Biodiesel, Vegetable oil, Bioethers, Biogas<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Second generation<\/strong>: These are produced <strong>from non-food crops<\/strong>, such as cellulosic biofuels and waste biomass (stalks of wheat and corn, and wood). <strong>Examples<\/strong> include advanced biofuels like <strong>biohydrogen, biomethanol.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Third generation:<\/strong> These are produced <strong>from micro-organisms like algae.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Fourth generation:<\/strong> Fourth-generation biofuels <strong>aim not only to generate<\/strong> sustainable <strong>energy but also to provide a way to capture and store CO2.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Q1: What is G20?<\/h2>\n<p>The Group of Twenty (G20) is the premier intergovernmental forum for international economic cooperation. The forum plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues. The Group of Twenty (G20) comprises 19 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, T\u00fcrkiye, United Kingdom and United States) and the European Union.
