{"id":23306,"date":"2026-04-27T12:53:03","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T07:23:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23306"},"modified":"2026-04-27T13:11:03","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T07:41:03","slug":"what-is-kawasaki-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-kawasaki-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"Kawasaki Disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Kawasaki Disease Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A multicenter study recently found that the addition of prednisolone to the conventional primary therapy for Kawasaki disease had no effect on lowering the number of cases of coronary-artery lesions at one month from the onset of the disease. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Kawasaki Disease<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kawasaki Disease, also known as <\/span><b>Kawasaki syndrome<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><b>mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a <\/span><b>rare disease<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that causes <\/span><b>fever and inflammation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the <\/span><b>blood vessels.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It occurs <\/span><b>mostly in children younger than 5 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">years old and <\/span><b>affects boys more often<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than girls.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The disease was first described in Japan by Tomisaku Kawasaki in 1967, and the first cases outside of Japan were reported in Hawaii in 1976.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>cause <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of Kawasaki disease is <\/span><b>unknown<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, although <\/span><b>more cases happen in late winter and early spring.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>most common form of acquired<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (not present at birth) <\/span><b>heart disease in children in developed countries.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The condition <\/span><b>causes <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>immune system to attack blood vessels, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which <\/span><b>become inflamed and swollen.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It tends to <\/span><b>affect the coronary arteries, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which carry blood to the heart muscle.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can also cause <\/span><b>problems with lymph nodes, skin,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>lining of a child\u2019s mouth, nose, and throat.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0It is <\/span><b>not contagiou<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s, so it cannot spread from person to person.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Kawasaki Disease <\/b><b>Symptoms<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Symptoms of Kawasaki disease can appear in <\/span><b>two phases<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and may <\/span><b>last several week<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Common symptoms <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">include:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><b>high fever<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> lasting more than five days.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><b>rash <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on the <\/span><b>main part of the body<\/b> <b>or<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><b>genital area.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An <\/span><b>enlarged lymph node<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the neck.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Very red eyes <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">without a thick discharge.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Red, dry, cracked lips <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and a red, <\/span><b>swollen tongue.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Swollen, red skin on the palms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the hands and the soles of the feet. Later the skin on fingers and toes peels.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Kawasaki Disease <\/b><b>Treatment<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is<\/span><b> often treatable<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
