{"id":23306,"date":"2024-12-08T08:53:03","date_gmt":"2024-12-08T03:23:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23306"},"modified":"2025-04-07T01:38:27","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T20:08:27","slug":"what-is-kawasaki-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-kawasaki-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Kawasaki Disease?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Kawasaki Disease:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is also known as <strong>Kawasaki syndrome or mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is a rare disease that causes <strong>fever and inflammation of the blood vessels<\/strong>, <strong>mainly in children under 5 years of age.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The disease was first described in Japan by Tomisaku Kawasaki in 1967, and the first cases outside of Japan were reported in Hawaii in 1976.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>cause<\/strong> of Kawasaki disease is <strong>unknown<\/strong>, although more cases happen in late winter and early spring.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is one of the <strong>most common forms of acquired heart disease in children.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The condition <strong>causes the immune system to attack blood vessels,<\/strong> which become inflamed and swollen.<\/li>\n<li>It tends to <strong>affect the coronary arteries<\/strong>, which carry blood to the heart muscle. It can also <strong>cause problems with lymph nodes, skin, and the lining of a child&#8217;s mouth, nose, and throat.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Symptoms<\/strong>: Symptoms of Kawasaki disease can appear in two phases and may last several weeks.
