{"id":23330,"date":"2024-05-13T01:10:04","date_gmt":"2024-05-12T19:40:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23330"},"modified":"2025-04-07T01:48:30","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T20:18:30","slug":"zero-day-vulnerability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/zero-day-vulnerability\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Zero-Day Vulnerability (ZDV)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Zero-Day Vulnerability:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A <strong>ZDV<\/strong> is a <strong>system or software vulnerability unknown to the vendor<\/strong> and for which<strong> no patch or<\/strong> means of <strong>mitigation <\/strong>are<strong> available at the time it is discovered<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The term ZDV refers to the flaw itself, while <strong>zero-day attack<\/strong> refers to an <strong>attack that has zero days between<\/strong> the time the <strong>vulnerability is discovered and<\/strong> the <strong>first attack.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Zero-day exploit<\/strong> refers to the method or <strong>technique<\/strong> hackers <strong>use to take advantage of<\/strong> a <strong>ZDV<\/strong>, often via malware, <strong>and execute the attack<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Thus, a zero-day attack occurs when threat actors develop and release malware that targets the ZDV.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Because they were <strong>discovered before security researchers<\/strong> and software developers became aware of them\u2014and before they<strong> can issue a patch<\/strong>\u2014ZDVs <strong>pose a higher risk to<\/strong> users for the following reasons:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cybercriminals<\/strong> race to <strong>exploit these <\/strong>vulnerabilities to cash in on their schemes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vulnerable systems are exposed<\/strong> until a patch is issued by the vendor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Once a ZDV has been made public<\/strong>, it is known as an <strong>n-day or one-day vulnerability.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Malware?<\/h3>\n<p>Malware, or malicious software, is any program or file that is intentionally harmful to a computer, network or server.
