{"id":23391,"date":"2024-05-15T09:38:48","date_gmt":"2024-05-15T04:08:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23391"},"modified":"2025-10-13T13:08:47","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T07:38:47","slug":"memory-of-the-world-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/memory-of-the-world-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"Memory of the World Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Memory of the World Programme:\u00a0<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is part of an international <strong>initiative launched by UNESCO<\/strong> in 1992 to safeguard the <strong>documentary heritage of humanity<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>This programme aims to recognise significant documentary heritage in a similar fashion to the way <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/unesco-world-heritage-sites-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\">UNESCO\u2019s World Heritage Convention and World Heritage List<\/a> recognises significant natural and cultural sites.<\/li>\n<li>The Memory of the World Programme (MoW) aims to:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Facilitate preservation<\/strong> of the world&#8217;s documentary heritage, particularly in areas affected by conflict and\/or natural disaster.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Enable universal access<\/strong> to documentary heritage worldwide.<\/li>\n<li>Enhance public awareness about the significant of documentary heritage among the wider public.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Governance:<\/strong> The International Advisory Committee (IAC) is the main body responsible for advising UNESCO on the planning and implementation of this MoW Programme as a whole.<\/li>\n<li>It comprises 14 members serving in a personal capacity, appointed by the Director-General of UNESCO, and chosen for their authority in the field of documentary heritage.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nomination for MoW:<\/strong> The call for nominations and inscriptions on the Asia Pacific Register is made <strong>every two years<\/strong> unless unexpected circumstances make this impractical. Nominations will normally be called for in the even-number years (to alternate with the International Register).<\/li>\n<li><strong>India\u2019s 3 items included in Mow are<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ramcharitmanas: <\/strong>It was written <strong>by Tulasidas<\/strong> in the 16th century in the <strong>Awadhi dialect<\/strong>, which is primarily spoken in the districts of Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Panchatantra: <\/strong>The Panchatantra of ancient India is a <strong>collection of fables <\/strong>originally <strong>written in Sanskrit<\/strong>.
