


{"id":23415,"date":"2024-05-16T12:26:09","date_gmt":"2024-05-16T06:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23415"},"modified":"2025-04-07T02:22:33","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T20:52:33","slug":"global-report-on-internal-displacement-grid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/global-report-on-internal-displacement-grid\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID) 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Global Report on Internal Displacement 2024:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an <strong>annual report<\/strong> published by the <strong>Geneva-based Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>It records internal displacements<strong> due to conflict and violence and disasters.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Highlights of GRID-2024:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In 2023<\/strong>, the number of <strong>internally displaced people<\/strong> (IDP) <strong>increased to75.9 million,<\/strong> from 71.1 million in the preceding year.<\/li>\n<li>Report says <strong>7.7 million<\/strong> displaced <strong>by disasters<\/strong> (one-fourth of it was caused by earthquakes) and <strong>68.3 million by conflict and violence<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sudan, Syria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo<\/strong> (DRC), <strong>Colombia,<\/strong> and <strong>Yemenhost<\/strong> nearly <strong>half of the world\u2019s IDPs<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>At <strong>9.1 million, Sudan<\/strong> has the <strong>highest number<\/strong> of IDPs recorded for a single country.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Most of the new displacement<\/strong> this year happened in<strong> Sudan<\/strong>, the <strong>Palestinian territories<\/strong>, and the <strong>Democratic Republic of Congo<\/strong>, accounting for almost <strong>two-thirds of <\/strong>all <strong>new displacement.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>South Asia:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The IDMC said around <strong>5.3 million<\/strong> people were living <strong>in internal displacement<\/strong> as a <strong>result of conflict and violenceacross South Asia<\/strong> at the end of 2023, <strong>80 percent<\/strong> of whom were <strong>in Afghanistan.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Conflict and violencetriggered69,000 displacements<\/strong> in <strong>South Asia in 2023, <\/strong>with <strong>Manipur violencealone<\/strong> accounting <strong>for 67,000.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is the <strong>highest number<\/strong> of displacements <strong>triggered by conflict<\/strong> and violence <strong>in India since 2018.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>There is a <strong>sharp decline in IDP in 2023<\/strong> from 2.5 million internal displacements <strong>due to natural disasters in India<\/strong> in 2022.
